I called to have these installed… The guy at the tire place said he would recommend putting on new rotors. My car has 27,000 miles… I hate to change pads and rotors for a little break squeak. Do you think the rotors are necessary?

What's the thickness of the rotors on the car? And what's the min thickness on the rotor?
What was his reasoning? New brembo oe uv coated two piece rotors are about 230 each, one piece cast rotors are 100 each

i think his concern is that after 27k miles the rotors may have grooves in them. and theres a layer of old pad on the rotor. bedding the new pads should help with the latter. otherwise there *may* be juddering and noise untill the new pads wear off all the old pad material.

https://www.brembostoreusa.com/blog/...-need-to-know/

i did not change rotors but i only have 6K miles on mine.

i dont think its a safety issue , but a question of NVH untill the new pads bed in.

is that front only? front and rear? pads and install?

the pads front and rear themselves were 200ish for my 40, its about 250 for the pads on an M50i.

if its 470 for the pads and install i would say thats a good price. 220 for labor is about two hours of shop time, it should take about two hours, probably less. for all 4. it took me 3 and i was taking my time and had to jack up one corner at a time.

i'm on week two, another few hours of driving in nyc over the weekend, pads dead silent, still got a good bite, and so far no dust.

not sure what the going rate for labor is in your area so that might be reasonable.

likely they did book rate.

have you had a chance to drive it with the new pads?

as long as they bonded the pads and didnt use grease on the backs they should be silent./

Yes. I live in Nashville. Went for a few drives. Dead silent and stop great. Brake dust will be the icing on the cake. I guess at 27k miles brake pad were probably getting close to needing replacement anyways. Thanks for your help. Happy wife, happy life.

I did notice the little grease packet in the box but they didn’t use it. I left instructions about holding down brake pedal.. who knows if they did tgat or not. I did go thru the brake in process that you linked.

the grease is for the contact points, they probably used their own.

they arent supposed to grease the back of the pads though. (yeah, some have done it even though theres adhesive)

yeah, i didnt get a chance to clean my winter rims after i threw them on so i still had last years brake dust one them. i cleaned a spot and so far no dust on it. only have about 150 miles or so on the new pads, going to go for a longer drive later this week. casual observation, but in the past, the pads would dust up the rims pretty good by this point.

I'm pretty happy with the stopping power- i've used low dust pads in the past and they always have a disappointing initial bite to the point i just dealt with the OEM msport pads. gallons of sonax wheel cleaner.

Agreed. Seem like they stop same as original pads. They should come with these from the factory

bmw does use what i think are NAO compound pads, for non msport brakes across all models. my 2016 335i GT had the non msport brembo fixed caliper, 4 piston brakes but not painted, very little dust and no noise

Thinking of trying these.. Front-DP32304C from ebc brakes. Heard they are much better on squeaking and brake dust.

Funny as I am experiencing the same exact thing. Wife is pissed! how are those pads holding up? I just placed an order for them.

Not to go too far afield but I loved my 2016 330 GT that I leased as a work car. Used every bit of the 36k miles on it. Thing could haul darn near as much as an X3 and the rear seat was way more spacious and comfortable. I should have kept that car but I didn't exactly take excellent care of it (executive demo that I got for a stupid cheap lease).

The 335i GT would be the definite hot setup (did they ever make one with the B58? That would be amazing).

Not a thing of beauty, but damn what a car.

I did put ceramic brake pads on the 330i GT, so I am back on topic.

As far as squeaking brakes, chamfering the back edge of the pad with a file (or rough concrete street/driveway) will help.

they did, the MY 2017 till EOP was the B58. LCI got LED headlights and tails, and the B58. missed it by one year, my GT was a 2016

my GT lives on, my brother bought it off lease and its still chugging away.
i replaced the GT with an X3, way less legroom. the X7 has less with captains chairs, and less with the 2nd row not fully back ( 37.4 vs 39.2)
definately an oddball car but it was great for the space it had.

EBC doesnt recommend redstuff pads for SUVs- yellow or blue due to the weight and fading risk. if you check their fittement guide, they only list the yellows and blues for the X7. the X7 shares calipers with the sedans, like the M550i, so the pads will fit, just not recommended for the weight.
https://ebcbrakes.com/vehicle/usa/BMW/X7%20(G07)/

brembo part numbers. note the N denotes the NAO ceramic. the part without the N is their low met pad.
For the M50i
Front:P06106N

rear: P06109N

rock auto has both.
https://www.rockauto.com/en/catalog/...brake+pad,1684

having removed the oe pads, the brembos are basically OEM- the stock pads are brembo up front, trw in the rear. the ceramic compound alone should take care of the noise. quality will be OEM since they are OEM. i was looking at powerstop and some other third party pads but reports of being very different in initial bite, or clanking and clattering in the calipers because the pads were not 100% the same size as stock made me pick the brembos.

i cant speak to the dust as i've only put about 30 miles on the pads so far, but normally i would come away with dust on my finger just driving between my place in the outer boroughs where i wash the car to my garage in the city ( 6 miles). so far on the non scientific test, i've been driving for two days on the new pads and no dust with the finger swipe test.

they dont feel vastly different from the OEM pads- the initial bite is less but i dont feel any reduction in stopping power. no noise also, but i didnt have that issue with the stock pads except when we were in the single digits.
Thank you!! I just ordered these Brembo NAO pads for front and rear and had my local BMW dealer swap them out. They are amazing and how the X7 should be! I have put 500 miles on with NO squeaking and no appreciable brake dust. I was losing my mind with the squeak and being told it's normal. It's not normal, and this is the fix. So glad I found this thread, love driving my M50i again!
