Phone chargers never work that well in any vehicle we’ve had. I plug mine in using USB-C and my wife uses the charging pad. Doesn’t really matter. There are at least 7 USB-C’s in all the right places for the kids iPads. And the accesssories are great that plug into the back of the seats for working tables and iPad holders.

The X7 is the best pick without a doubt. The third row is the most luxurious and spacious and has better sight lines for my kids. And more storage below the rear deck without the spare tire. Captains chairs and the way the seats move are a huge plus. That’s all that really matters in jumping up to the larger vehicle.

Plus you have three trims - the chill I6, the potent V8, and the insane XB7. And other than the stop sale brake booster issue, which we didn’t have to deal with, the X7 usually faultless when it comes to any mechanical and software and electrical issues.

Love the seating position, the smoothness of the drivetrain, the comfort and luxury, the sound system, and the handsome look.

Amazing cars all, but the prices on these things are just insane. A lot of cheese for a big depreciation event. Especially as section 179 really starts to taper.

I really like the looks of the RR, classy, not over styled.

I own a X7 M50 pre-lci fully loaded and can confirm, the ride is bouncy. I don't like it. Its not comfortable. But it does handle well in the corners.

The pre-lci also comes with a TON of options that the lci does not. Yet, the cost the same. So the lci is more money for less car. I'd try to find a fully loaded 2020 with low miles rather than a new one if you're looking. You'll get more car.

Having said all that... my X7 is easily the best vehicle I've ever owned. And that includes a Range Rover and my wife's Cayenne.
What makes it stand out relative to these others?

What options did the pre-LCI come with that the LCI doesn't?

They are known for oil leaks! At least the older British cars. Their car designs are just classy, gotta give it to them for that.

There were a number of deletions from pre-LCI to LCI namely:

1. Deletion of rear door comfort entry
2. Trim in the 3rd row not matching rest of car (this might have actually been changed late pre-LCI)
3. Change from metal window controls to plastic
4. Change from alcantara sunshade to fabric
5. No longer ability to "trick" the car into turning off auto stop/start

There are probably more changes but this is off the top of my head.

These are some pretty minor things... and my LCI has metal window controls and alcantara sunshade. Meanwhile the LCI gets a much improved driving assistance pro functionality.

We cross shopped the GLS580, the RR was not on the list because no 3rd row at the time.

To me MB use to always have a reputation of being built like vaults, and the older ones you could absolutely feel the quality difference when you got inside.

Definitely not with the GLS It looks high quality inside from afar, but when you get in it and touch it it just didnt feel the same. And definitely, lots of squeaks when you push on things.

Our almost 2-year-old X7 M50i feels like a tank in comparison with no rattles at all.

I do like the new RR looks though, its a shame the are so damn unreliable.

These also went away and they aren’t minor to me. It’s why I’m stuck trying to figure out what to buy next that’s better than my 2020 M50i with all options:

Night vision
Ambient air
RSE
Start stop button

Feels strange shopping for something that when maxed out has less…isn’t it supposed to get better with newer models. I had hopes that the XM would be my next addition but that ended up a disappointment when I saw and drove it. So now I’m just waiting to see what is in the BMW pipeline with my fingers crossed. 🤞

I don't want to turn this into a pre-LCI vs LCI debate (there's been plenty of those on this forum). This is about how the X7 compares to the competitors. And compared to them it's still the most feature rich.

As I’ve said before, anyone is lucky to own an X7 in any model or trim or year it’s a great vehicle. Their lack of features that were previously there in the X7 but oddly may show up in other models is just making it hard on me to give BMW my money. I love how their vehicles drive though so I’m probably going to fork over my money anyway 😂

Thank you. We should also compare the vehicles for their digital features in terms of HUD and instrument panel and computer interface. The X7 blows away the merc and the RR. I absolutely love iD8.5. It’s crisp, easy to use, not clunky or laggy, and great SW. Merc is a disaster and RR is overly simplified.

The X7 had the best handling and a fancy interior with extremely high build quality, however the phone charger was useless.

The GLS was boring and the interior wasn't as nice or as comfortable as the other 2.
Cut to the chase. They'd take the Range Rover. To me RR has pefected sophisticated luxury styling inside and out...if only RR could fix their quality control issues. I used to have a RRS. I really loved that thing. It was super capable in all conditions. I didn't have any more creaks or rattles than the Cayanne S or X5...but the dealer experience was really bad and the Infotainment was super laggy. However, my daugther and wife still found it the most comfortable...the stereo was amazing as well. Horses for courses as they say...the GLS is only good in Mayback trim.

I can’t figure out why Jaguars are rock solid yet Range Rovers have issues. Yet, they are still the choice of Southern California moms. My niece is in Austin, but has the California blonde look and drives a Range Rover. It’s just a status thing. It used to be Mercedes. BMWs are appreciated by automobile lovers, not soccer moms.

It just might be demand and supply. RR pretty much sells everything they make. I believe JLR makes the most money per car sold after Porsche among mainstream brands…they should fix the quality issues. Luckily my RRS was trouble free apart from the frustrating Infotainment. I had the V6 and V8. The new V8s are BMW sourced I believe. I was in a recent RRS and the Infotainment is also much better. The interior packaging is very nice. But you get more value for money with a BMW X7. No question.

My Jaguar was laggy as well, that was fixed with the Pivi Pro. The Meridian sound system is phenomenal. But, they just aren’t competitive so I bought a BMW.

The other issues at play here are availability and service costs. I custom ordered our X7 and got it in 6 weeks - loaded with B&W, atlas grey/white interior etc which sometimes takes longer. Of course I live a state away from the factory so that helps cut delivery time from 4-8 weeks. But the RR is pretty difficult still to acquire and the Benz still has markups at our dealer last time I checked. The Benz maintenance cost is about $2k over three or four years based on our GL450 experience and I bet the RR is more.

I would take the X7 any day and who needs a wireless phone charger?

Had the GLS before. It was amazing but boring.
This is the most valuable and laconic observation I’ve seen lately. Adding my full concurrence.
