I am not concerned with my ability to hold a job in this economy. I am actually leaving mine and starting a new one in the next couple of weeks. My skills are transferable and even if I am laid off at some company, I can find a job at another because I am qualified, educated and have credentials. Also, I have planned for the future and I am not spending every dollar I make as it comes in. I have an emergency fund, among other savings. I think its all about just being smart and having common sense imo.

EDIT: I should mention I am in my mid-20's, single, no kids. My only expenses are my own. I guess I might think differently if I had greater responsibilities.

Worrying is not an action.

I am concerned, you'd be foolish not to be. However, I'm spending my time redoubling my efforts in my work, making sure I eat right and exercise regularly, making time for my family and staying on top of my 12 step program. All this is in an effort to keep a positive outlook.

I fully believe that if I keep my head up I can survive and even excel in this economy. Those who are mopeing and expecting to fail.......will. People have a tendency to live up to or down to what we expect of them. This is also true of what our expectations are for ourselves. I expect to succeed and I will.

This will end and when it does I'm buying an M5. Loaded.

Now stop harshing my mellow. This is a nice enjoyable form of recreation for me and you're being a buzz-kill.

I got 2 jobs and I don't see myself losing either of them. They are not career jobs but I love working. $$$ and yeah I live with my parents, but that should change after this semester since I might be transferring. Sorry to people who are affected with this bad economy but hopefully our new President can do something about it. Stay positive people who are in trouble, things will get better.

Well said man! Save the $ talk for $ outlets, not needed here. Especially in the general section.

Am I worried about all the money I lost on the market, the rising unemployment rate, my own econmic future - of course. I'm not totally removed from reality.

But, that doens't mean I want to spent my time on the internet talking to BMW drivers about my $ problems.

If you are really interesting in chating with people about your fears concerns your job security, this is probably not the best outlet.

Its like that story..

One man is doing good with his business and starts hearing about economy getting worse in coming years. So he starts cutting down on his flourishing business and stops providing facilities to his customers.

And slowly as luck would have it.. lesser customers started coming in..and he had to shut down one fine day. . and then he said to his son.. "Good that we cut down on cost beforehand"

Whata moron! If you keep listening to negative news.. you become part of it.
Well put. F'n news (or should we call it the blues) always over dramatizes everything and putting the kill joy on life. Nothing like emphasizing the negative to get a good buzz on.

Military here. Afghanistan, Iraq, Iran, and the potential resurgence of communist ideology in Latin America should keep me employed for awhile. My particular set of skills should transfer to the civilian sector fairly readily if I decide to retire anytime soon though.

As Warren Buffett and many others have said, money does not buy happiness!

I am in my mid 40's and even though I am fortunate to not really have to work anymore, I have altered my spending habits a little. Anybody that is too smug in these economic times really has no grasp of how many people are struggling or unemployed.

ps God bless you alpine blur; every American owes you guys a lot of gratitude!

Correct that is what I mean....
And yes it is a very complicated ERP package that runs entire companies.
Also stands for Salary Adjustment Program (as it pays very well)

Is there that many people here who live with Mom and Dad?
This is a BMW forum; It's an escape. This is generally not a place that people come to mope about such real life issues.

I am worried about being out of a job once my contract is up. I've been throwing my resume out there since I started here in hopes of finding a full-time position.
In the mean time, I've been very stringent with my paycheques.

I think its more like people come on here to get away. We go through a whole day talking about depressing shit like getting laid off with people like you. And then we just want to come here and get away and talk about something fun and relaxing to us, not more depressing shit with you. Does it sadden you that no one is depressed here or what because if you're, be sad no more, I was laid off last Wednesday.

Agree'd. We all need that one place to get away from it all. Although on the other hand, it would be nice to 'connect' (in a way) with other people that are going through the same thing. Don't knock on the OP too much, maybe this thread is a way for everyone going through the same thing to connect...

Sorry to hear about you being laid off samwoo2go. What's in store for you next?
