I'm glad that you were able to show this to them. It's always a headache to reproduce issues like this... Do you have any update from your dealer?

I also saw similar efforts on other forums but so far no one seems to have a robust solution. Some are saying it's all software that can be taken care of by a future OTA update.

I just got by OTA update to 11/2022.44 installed last night so hoping that would fix the issue. Will report back if it happens again over the next few weeks as it's super sporadic.

Also just got the 11/2022 update pushed to me. Will install now and see if that helps. Unfortunately, on another group, someone brought their car in for the CarPlay “drift”’issue and the dealership reported that there was no fix

Yeah, sad to report that even after the update the issue returned.

Same here. Was hopeful it would fix it as it was happening to me almost every day. After a few days with the 11/2022 update it popped up again

Recently when this happened again to me, head unit reset didn't work any more... Hard to believe they just can't properly address a function almost all cars have nowadays.

Thank you! I'm glad they are at least aware. It makes using carplay for navigation impossible as it will 'drift' at any time.

New issue. Now each screen shows I’m at a different place. I’ve had the drift issue since I bought my 2023 X7 but this new issue only happened since the new update.

The drift also got worse after the recent update, two days in a row (so basically navigation is useless now). Before the update the drift only happened to CarPlay mode and could be resolved by headunit reset. After the update, drift happens to BMW navigation too and headunit reset will never work.

Currently on a road trip. Did the OTA update before leaving. Prior to that I didn’t experience any CarPlay drift.

On our third day of the road trip it happened. I just left it and after about an hour it resolved by itself. I checked Waze and it was also affected while being connected to the X7.

I’ve had this happen in our previous Audi and way back in 2015 with a Honda Pilot we had.

Any solutions encountered yet? It plagues my wife *who cannot navigate w/o googlemaps* When in the car, her phone also experiences GPS drift, so she has to disconnect wifi/bluetooth to navigate.

I’m not sure what happened but after I updated my iOS to 16.3.1 which was recently released (Feb 13) I haven’t had the drift issue in 2-3 weeks. Whereas before, it was happening every few days. I’m hoping Apple resolved the issue.

There seems to be a new software version upgrade. 11/2022.63. Has anyone upgraded to test whether the issue is resolved?

Update: iOS 16.3.1 did not solve the issue. In fact seems like it made it worse. When the issue pops up, even a restart of iDrive doesn’t fix the issue.

I don’t see 11/2022.63 as available to upgrade. Still on .44

I’m also on iOS 16.3.1. My dealership asserts it is specifically related to the iPhone 14 device as they didn’t see the drift on prior models when they tested this week (see attachment). They say Apple has to fix it.

I’m not convinced as we saw it last year when we had iPhone 13s and others here are saying the same.

FWIW I prefer Android Auto to CarPlay. It displays multiple apps at once and the UI is less distracting than CarPlay (more dark mode). Now I typically use my Android and have never experienced the drift issue with it.

I’m really looking forward to iDrive 8.5.

I can now confirm the drift is still present on 11/2022.63. It happens with my iPhone 14 and my fiancé’s iPhone 13.

Yeah I call shenanigans on this. We also have an iDrive 7/X5 that never has this issue with our iPhone 14s. Also, I believe when connected to iDrive the phone uses the car's GPS and even if we just connect our phones to the X7, and just try and use any Map software we get the issue on the phone itself. So just being connected to CarPlay on iDrive 8 causes the phone to be off.
