Update - 1/23/17:
Have a first live video look at the BMW X7 prototype. Not only does it look tough, but sounds it as well. The X7 is expected to be revealed next year and land at dealers in 2019. The U.S. will get x40i, x40d, and x50i models, while the rest of the world will also get the x30i and x30d (source).

All of you bemoaning the size and lack of nimbleness are invited to drive a GLS, Range Rover, or any of the American XL products. Barges do not begin to describe the bloated feel, lack of feedback or precision. They are horrific to drive with no saving grace from the off road capability IMO, and its galling that RR can charge so much money for such an average interior, hopeless electronics and overall feel of elephant-ness.
The only game in town for three row buses for people like us who value the driving experience are the Q7 and XC90. The Volvo doesn't have a convincing power train as far as I am concerned, but looks amazing inside and out. The Q7 looks like a chiseled fridge outside, but is amazing inside and drives very well. The X7 will have a real uphill battle to beat the Q7, at least based on initial looks.

Some of you guys really need to relax.....the car is covered in camo so we don't have the real look of it and some of you are already up in arms about a car you don't know anything about. Please reserve judgement until we see what it really looks like. Any full size SUV out there is going to be similar in a lot of ways, it's what it is. Tough crowd I guess, relax......my 2 cents

Ever sit in the back seat of a Range Rover for a long road trip? No thanks. Cramped is an understatement. My brother and sister-in-law both have 2016 Range Rovers (hers is the Autobiography). Not all that luxurious back there either. I think BMW can bring something special to this segment.

I really want a larger SUV but are these MSRP's getting crazy? The only reason I need one is to tow the race car, ~ 12 times a year.
I'd rather have a crew cab pickup that I can throw endless kid shit in and not worry about getting dirty. Then a sedan for the other 85% of my life. Am I crazy or just getting more conservative as I approach 40....? I can't see how the X7 isn't $100k, I'm sure it will look good in the M-Sport trim. And this is really coming from my increasing distaste of driving a heavy SUV, even though it does haul ass. LX 570 - $95k GLS550 - $98k Range Rover - $98k, imo underpowered at this price point. Cadillac - $87k |

In late 2001/early 2002 I was into creating "mods" of cars using a paint program, and there were many threads on various enthusiast boards filled with them. Seeing the X7 prototype reminded me of a couple, which I still have. These look pretty lame on modern screens, but back in the day we were more storage and bandwidth conscious. Oh, I'm not a pro artist either.
While BMW is unlikely to use anything like the horrendous lights on the "Bascalade" (green X5 mod), I think I might have been on to something with the grill! The "Bavtek" is just here to remind everyone that no matter how bad you think it might get, there's always something worse. I'm personally looking forward to the X7, having owned two X5s and a longtime X5 fan, even if the current generation is more of a E70 LCI+ versus a true FXX model. I don't know that I'd consider an X7 as I don't have the need to haul so many passengers, but if it looks great, drives great, and just plain feels great, I might consider one. |

They keep saying it will have its own identity & a lot of the German manufacturers have been really good for making all their cars look alike in the past few years
