I picked up my X7 yesterday and I asked about the HU. The parts department was closed so I could not ask them what the replacement one is but the staff only said if you have ID-8 then you will get ID-8.5 and not 9. If you have ID-8.5, now, then you will get ID-9. So based on that I probably have HU4. Wish they could tell me definitely but for me I did not care to wait for it anyway.

You can ignore what they said. No X7's have iD8.5 now and there are no plans for iD9 at this time. HU4 can't support iD8.5 so you don't have that.

Anyway I may have misstated. He did not say the X7 had it. He meant a vehicle that comes with 8.5 will get 9, those with 8 will not get 9. I have heard many say that those with 8 will get 8.5. At some point we will all know what is true.

Oh okay. Either way, there are no current plans for the G07 to get 9. All produced from April thru July will get 8.5 via OTA/dealer update and those produced August on will get 8.5 from the factory.

I really hope to get 8.5. I am looking forward to the climate screen redesign and the moving of the home button among other things.

Delivery would depend on where you live. Some folks will likely be getting them the first week of August.

Things did not change much from what I shared ~3-4 months ago (except shifting from July to Aug) but here is a revised update based on most recent news:

To summarize:

• 2024 X7 - August+ build: Will come with MGU5 and ID 8.5 from factory --> Will also support ID9 in the future (if BMW decides to offer it as an OTA)

• 2024 X7 - April-July build:: compatibility is confirmed as mentioned in the past. BMW will offer a software update for ID 8.5 --> may not support ID9

• 2023 X7: as indicated nearly a year ago before orders were opened, sorry guys, no changes. this model year (2023 LCI) has been left out from a number of things, starting from the newer service pack, high-way hands-free driving, and now again ID8.5 The vehicle is not even compatible with ID 8.5 or other features.

Yes, there have been a few X5 vehicles also produced with the new head units. The roll out at the production line using the newer head units might have started already. The final deadline was end of July as a worst case scenario. It’s hard to predict when and if every single vehicle produced now will have MGU5, but likely that’s the case.

If some* people with a June build are already getting the MGU5, then yes, it is a possibility. The question is, is it 100% of orders nowadays are delivered with MGU5 or not? That might help to get some more clarity.

I thought Idrive 9 was Android auto and Idrive 8 could not support 9 since it is linux. I’m curious how that plays out.

Also do you know if 8.5 HU5 will use snapdragon or is Idrive 8 produced after April already have snapdragon?

There is now an active technical campaign to update vehicles to 8.5. You may want to call your dealer to see if they will do the update.

How can I check what I'm running? My x7 finished production yesterday and I'm picking it up next month at the performance center. I want to make sure when I pick it up that it's up to date.
