That colour in the pictures is called "Cape York Green". Looked very good in person.

I can't really make beads or tails of this thing, since it's such a departure. Will really have to wait to see one in person

just looks like every other SUV to me—-bloated, excessive, and pointless.

I like it, it looks like a 1980's "future" design, like a BMW you'd see in Robo-Cop or Back to the Future.

I certainly can't afford this, but I actually think it looks pretty cool and is an interesting modern take on an SUV. I would have liked if this was the iX design as I just can't come around to liking the look of that.

Also, FWIW, I think the MB G Wagon is rather ugly which I know is a controversial opinion.

You could add the G-Wagon in there, I'd wager that BMW had their eyes on that market.
I can't for the life of me understand why anyone would buy this over a G Wagon. BMW is in for a big surprise if they think they are going to take sales from that. Hell I'd take a normal G550
over the XM.
The Gwagen was still cool 15 years ago when it was still largely unchanged from the 1970s and a pretty rare sight.

Nowadays they're the Honda Civic for rich mommies and while I respect the heritage I wouldn't be caught dead near one. They got way too cool and the trend has naturally consumed its own cachet.

That looks way better. All the gold in the other one was completely throwing me off. I'd still prefer an X5M Comp but at least this in black doesn't look like something out of a kids video game like the original pictures.

What we really need from BMW though is an ICE powered Halo M car, not an SUV.

forget the turbo gt, it's impossible to get one and get one at msrp. We are looking at Urus, G wagons, and Cayenne turbos in this price range.

without closely looking at the interior I don't know of any BMW that can command 150k+ that isn't called the M5 CS
Where do you guys live that a Urus is anywhere near $180k? You will pay $225k for one with 40k miles.......
Exactly.
This is the BMW for people who really want a Urus. A loaded out XM seems to be priced right around the base Urus before options.

Not my cup of tea, but to me it is BMW's answer to the G-Wagon; the vehicle is a status symbol. Not something that I find attractive, but it stands out.

I disagree. The G-Wagen is not simply a status symbol. It's actually a quite capable off-road vehicle, and I personally have taken mine off-road many times.

The XM does not look to be remotely as capable.

So Aston Martin builds an SUV. It is gorgeous, fast, sporty and sophisticated just like their other cars.
Ferrari does it too, and their version is beautiful, even faster, and sports a V12 as the USP. And they are all sold. Just like their cars.
Range Rover keeps the tradition up with an evolved, beautiful, very off road capable executive lounge on wheels.
Lamborghini builds one which is angular, brutish, and extremely fast. Just like their other cars.

You get the idea.

Then BMW barges with, and with great fanfare, gives us… this. great.

The XM's capabilities are on road, and may prove more capable in this regard.

So damn ugly, it's absurd.

One specific thing that is really bothering me is the lack of a BMW badge in the middle of the car. All that dead-space looks really off and the corner window badge silhouette thing looks tacky as hell.
