Cargo Cover Stow Away

Hey guys. You can stow both covers at the same time right? How in the f do you do it? I recall a pic floating around a while back, but can't recall in which thread it was shared.

This is what the owner's manual says about stowing the cargo covers. Does seem to say that both cargo covers can be stowed under the cargo floor. Would love to see a real life picture if anyone has done it.

I’d be shocked if this can actually be accomplished. I was just messing with it and they use the same space.

You need to take out the compartments on each side that pop right out to get the big one in/out.

No first aid kit. The space is there if you order/have the kit for it to fit. The 2 covers won't both fit underneath at the same time. Definitely not enough space to do so.

I removed the cover BMW stowed underneath from the factory and the foldable cover that sits behind the third row and keep them both in my house so that we have all that storage space underneath for other things. Personally I found the third row foldable shelf to be in the way when getting a few groceries. Now that I removed it we have easy access to that area.

+1

The shade in our X5 lasted exactly 1 trip in 3 years, it's been sitting in my garage collecting dust and awaiting lease turn-in day ever since.

By the way, there is a lot of extra space in those two rear-well compartments, I could get a medium sized nylon duffel in there with ease, perhaps a backpack or a soft-sided cooler in that compartment as well.

The amount of wasted space in storing those heavy covers is much better served on something else IMO. Especially when there is practically no luggage space with 6 or 7 passengers.

Me, I think since I have no need for a 3rd row, I'll stow the small cover under floor, and leave the large cover installed, with the 3rd row folded flat. Probably leave the cargo net up behind the 2nd row as well, in that configuration.

Anyone got any pics on how to the the bigger cover out? It looks like there’s open/close piece of plastic on the left side that is blocking it.... can’t figure out what that does or how to move it out of the way.

TIA!

I took both of mine out. They just rattle around anywhere you store them.

I got it out by pushing that plastic piece back far enough but would still like to know how to do it the “correct” way. :-)

Old thread, I know...but the video states both cannot be stored at same time. Has this been confirmed anywhere? Looking for a solution to store both. My OCD tendencies are getting the better of me.

Yep, can’t store both - the same spot is used for large and small covers, so only one can be in there at a time.

Yep! Another shit design by BMW and some other German Auto makers.

If you're going to give me two options for cargo covers then give me the option to store both of those cargo covers when I need maximum storage space vertically and horizontally. Don't force me to take out one or the other and store it somewhere outside the vehicle when I don't want to use either one of them.

I was forced to make the choice. Since I rarely use the third row I had to remove the cargo cover for the third row and find a place to store it in my house/garage where I will probably forget all about it until I need it and then can't remember where I stored it.

DUMB... DUMB...DUMB!!!

The small cargo cover is useless. Storage area is already so small with the third row up. God bless the thief if they want to scope out what behind there and break in.
