2023 x5 30d complete fuel system replacement

Hi,

My grandfather has a 2023 x5 30d in Australia, which has had an issue.

The vehicle sat in his garage for a couple weeks and then would not start. No errors on the display.

BMW picked the vehicle up to diagnose. They are saying that the vehicle had contaminated fuel and the entire fuel system needs replacing at a cost of approx $20,000.

Wondering if anyone has heard of this happening at all? And if bad fuel could've caused this?
Surely at worst case it would be a replacemt of the high pressure fuel pump, injectors and possibly the intank pump.

Thanks for your thoughts.
