Extended shadow line trim with M Sport/options?

Just and finally placed an order for X7 today! Going with the M Sport—I opted for the extended shadow line trim, but then my husband told me it was "sacrilege" to black out the grill??? I actually think the black grill looks pretty fierce. Anybody care to weigh in on this? Also, any options/packages I haven't added that I might later wish I had? Please and thank you!

Here's my build:

M Sport
Alpine White
22" V-spoke bi-color black wheels
Tartufo extended merino leather
Ash grain black wood trim with matte bronze effect
Cold weather package
Driving assistance package
Luxury seating package
Parking assistance package
Premium package
Extended shadow line trim

Yeah I wish you could just get the kidney grill silver/chrome, but all the non body color or non black bits made me add the extended shadowline on top of my MSport build. Luckily my sales person asked because I thought just MSport would give the look I like, I did not want the silver side vents and what ever other bits would of make it look cheap and non BMW. Sadly BMW has followed the trend of lots of silver & chrome accents, which haven't been on BMWs since the 80s or early 90s, and even then it was very minor and tasteful. In my artic gray, the black grill actually looks pretty good.

nonsense. black on white ala stormtrooper is fantastic

it really helps reduce the visual impact of the acre of grille, and all around looks quite nice even when you're going for the full limo effect.

My only gripe was that the badges were cerium, so I bought black badges and now the only things not black or white on the outside are the blues of the badges and in the headlights

Just ordered almost the same build a couple weeks ago, but with Mineral White Metallic, Black Extended Merino and 21" wheels. Also ordered the spare tire option, and trailer hitch. I think the spare tire is a bargain at $150. Have seen a number of posts where people wish they had gotten it after the fact, and even asked if anyone would order it on a new build, and sell it to them. Even with run flats, a bad pot hole can take out a tire and or wheel to where it's not usable, but a spare will get you home or to a shop.

I like the black out grill too (I have it on my F80 M3 as part of the Competition Package), but on the X7 it was almost "too black" for me due to the automatic grill louvers. The traditional black grill (with no louvers) provides that small bit of contrast in the grill that I think the X7 (and all modern BMW's with the louvers) are missing. So I decided to go the hybrid grill route to get back some of that slight contrast, but still keep the overall shadowline look that I like.

This is the OEM black grill with the OEM aluminum slats (took both grills apart to make this), which I think also goes nice with the factory running boards and wheels as well....

Go with your instincts. In top tier land, every high end manufacturer has a all black styling option to choose from. For example, Rolls-Royce just brought out their Cullinan “Black Edition”. In Escalade/Lincoln land the chrome look is popular with that demographic but even the new Escalade has a all black upgrade option.

Extended shadowline is the only way to go on the X7, whether the car is black or white.

Hmmm....perhaps I will reconsider the spare tire. As for the hitch, I ultimately decided to go aftermarket for that. Apparently when you get the hitch as part of the build it disables the kick to open feature on the back (which I use a ton on my current vehicle).

How did you get all black wheels with the M Sport? I have only 3 choices with that build, and none of them are all black.

the wheels are Vossen HF3 in factory sizes, but more aggressive offset. You can also have the factory wheels powdercoated any color you want.

the factory hitch option is nice, but you read correctly-it removes the kick-to-open sensor in the rear. If I ever get a hitch it'll be a stealth hitch.

Powder coat is the way I may have to go.

I left the hitch off my build for that exact reason. I'll be doing a stealth as I will need to tow a trailer.

Keep in mind, You can still get the extended shadowline on the luxury build.

I agree the regular luxury build was way too much chrome but I actually like a little bit of chrome rather than completely blacked out as this is my family car.

Luxury build also allows for 752 black to take out more chrome.

Looks nice! Personal preference, but for me I wouldn't want the amount of shiny chrome that's left on the lower half of the vehicle. If it were a satin finish like I have my x-line X3 I think I'd be ok with it. Again, this is purely subjective and I admit I'm more of a minimalist and not a fan of bling (opted for the premium over executive just so I wouldn't get the glass knobs or sky lounge) Also, I really prefer the M steering wheel—more important to me than solid black wheels. How long have you had your X7; do you love it?

I was violently opposed to the blacked-out grille but wanted the side SL trim. My wife finally set me straight and told me to try something new. I love the look and completely happy with the decision. Go with your instinct!

Similar build here, I got mineral white and 21' wheels. Added the extended shadow line and the hitch the last minute before I finalized my order, debating with myself for quite some time whether the black grill will fit the white body, now I think it will look great to me, even though I have to admit it fits the darker color slightly better. Anyway, it's depends on personal tastes.

IMO the hitch looks bad from behind, breaks the over all design of the car (slightly OCD here), but for my bikes and other staff, I still get it

I got used to the hitch cutout quickly. It doesn't take anything away from the car IMO.

X2. The cutout is so low that its below eye level. Just having a box hitch to accommodate a plethora of accessories is a must. Then there is the software in the iDrive that is set up to accommodate any towing, etc.. The last thing I am doing is stuffing my kids bikes inside a $125k SUV. I never used the "kick to open" feature in my last X5.

You just gave me a brain aneurysm thinking about my kid's bikes being shoved into the car.

I hope I will get use to how it looks as quickly as you did, still waiting on my X7. I am sure the hitch will do a lot of things for me so should never regret putting it on my list.

I'm going to get a stealth hitch. Less of an eye sore and won't disable kick to open, which I do frequently use.

Not that we carry bikes with the 7 as I have a Power Wagon but on extended vacations, there is times where bikes being carried will have to happen.
