Adaptive Headlight Malfunction

Hi there, I received the error “adaptive headlight malfunction” the other day and noticed the adaptive lighting was not working. I have an appointment scheduled for later this week but was wondering if anyone has experienced this and if so what the remedy was?

In USA they turn off this option as in USA we only accept good old fashion candle light ...

I've had that problem in mine in the USA. The dealership had to revise it off; and then my coder had to recode it back on.

Does this also include the cornering lights ? Because that function no longer works. I didn’t know if these two functions are intertwined. I understand we don’t get the adaptive feature in the US unless coded.

Not sure. Dealership said they are having to contact BMW tech which will take a couple of days. I hope this is not a sign of headaches with this vehicle. I’ve owned for less than a month and already issues.

That's not really true.

Adaptive headlights is often a generic term for "Automatic High Beams" which we do have here in the US.

What we don't have is "Anti-Dazzle Headlights". This feature doesn't simply flip between low and high beam depending on the traffic situation. The anti-dazzle feature actually moves the headlight beam around traffic to keep the road as illuminated as possible without blinding other drives.

We do have adaptive headlights, just not anti-dazzle.

Unless you code it on like I did, and it's awesome.

Thanks for explanation. I have Auto high beam in my Tesla Model X and was very surprised to read I won't have it in my X7. Now you got me thinking about Anti Dazzle. I don't know what it is but I want it now.

Can they code the standard Adaptive LED headlights on the 2020 X7 with Anti-Dazzle or is this only available with Laser Lights?

You will have automatic high beams in your X7 which is a simple turns the high beam off when it senses oncoming car . The "anti-dazzle" feature moves the high beams around do that it does not blind other cars while keeping the high beams on...this is coded off in US cars since it is not currently allowed in the US.

As long as you have auto high beam, it is code-able.

Cool! Might have to check into that depending on the cost. I have Bimmercode. Can Bimmercode code the Anti-Dazzle option through the advanced settings?

Has anyone had problems with automatic high beam not staying on after restart? I mentioned this in a different thread but not sure if I explained it well.

You have to push the button on the lever to the left of the steering column to engage auto high beam. It used to stay engaged until I manually pushed that button again. Now I have to push it every time I get into the car and want to use this feature. It's not the end of the world, but I forget to turn it on sometimes and it can be annoying.

Just curious if this happens to anyone and if its something that just changed with a software update?

This happens to me occasionally but not all the time. I would say the Auto High Beams don't come on automatically about 10 to 15% of the time. I do believe it's from a software update. In my particular case it started happening after being updated to my current 07/2020.30 iStep version.

It stayed on persistently prior to this update. I have not been able to pinpoint what causes it to fail to come on upon start up.

He didn't code it. He had it coded by r33_RGSport. Please review the previous posts.

r33_RGSport can remotely code your vehicle to enable the Anti-Dazzle feature.

Dealership is having to replace the headlights which they have to order. They don’t know when they will get it. I’ll pickup a loaner tomorrow.

Dealer ordered a new laser light replacement. $5-6k per unit 😳, under warranty so nothing out of pocket but still $5-6k is ridiculous.
