Stealth hitch wiring questions

Getting a stealth hitch installed on my 2021 X7–hearing mixed opinions on splicing into the BMW wiring versus clamping on instead. Anybody aware of issues being created by going the splicing route?

Isn't there a harness or something you can plug into versus splicing. I've got an 2019 X3 and in that group someone was able to get the OEM wiring all hooked in as well as having the dealer program up the towing mode in their X3.

I wouldn't splice into anything unless I knew for sure there was any other way.

I don't think the harness is there from the factory, but according to the parts diagram below, it may be retrofitable fairly easily:

Don't mind the diagram being a Euro hitch, the part numbers are for a US spec X7.

They are going to tap, not splice. Seems that's my best option.

Mainly posting to be verified but I thought they cut out too much of the center splash guard when they installed my Stealth hitch. I ordered that part and going to re-cut it so it looks better.

What did installation run you for the stealth hitch?

I'm curious--has anyone had a stealth hitch installed by a non-certified stealth hitch installer? Certain areas don't have a certified installer available.

Basic install of the hitch is not difficult. It's the wiring of the harness if you are not using the OE harness and module. Just make sure you have somebody that is competent in wiring. Bumper needs to be removed so no hacks, just get a good hitch installer that will take their time and be careful not to scratch the bumper. If you have a reputable body shop in the area that may be an option as well.

The G07's are not prewired like the G05's from the factory so if you want factory functionality, it's going to be a combo of BMW trailer module, G05 retrofit harness and splicing the G05 harness to the factory wiring (fuse box, CAN, 3rd brake light and right tail light. Then you have to flash and code the module to the vehicle. It can be done but it's definitely not plug and play.
