2018 M3 delivered soon.. Need advise on tinting

My new 2018 M3 Comp. Mineral Grey Metallic exterior and Sakhir Orange will be in my possession next week.

I'm looking for tinting suggestions. With that nice interior I don't want to go too dark. I was thinking 35% all around verses 18%.

Please let me know your thoughts.

Thanks

I like a subtle tint no darker than 35%. Anything more than that can not only hurt visibility during the day and especially nightt, but in my eyes looks a bit pretentious. Plus you want to show off that nice interior. Whatever you get though, get ceramic.

I personally like a light 35-ish% tint all around (minus the windshield). I don't know about the different tint brands and types. Why is ceramic tint better?

I was actually going to ask the same question. I know ceramic has more heat rejection but I think it looks the same. Would love to hear some more insight on that

My tint guy charges about $50 more for that.

Go with 30% all around except windshield.
35% is too light specially in sunny days.
On the other hand, 20% is real dark.
In past I have done 35%, 30%, 20% and 30% all around is best bet!

I have a low tolerance for dark tint and 35% is the lowest I'll go. If you go with a high quality film (i.e., Photosync, Stratos, Crystalline) you can get away with a lighter tint with comparable TSER to that of a darker film from a lower quality film. I hope that makes sense.

I did 30% all around. I think it looks awesome. I recommend doing some sort of ceramic tinting. I did formula one pinnacle

Is a car a car?...tint isn't tint either... ymmv

It really depends on tint, and the context of the car, but I've had tint that seemed way darker or lighter, than other tint of the same relative level.

This...

Not all tints are created equal, especially if you plan to keep the car for 2+ years. I went with 3M Chrystalline all around, even on the windshield, for maximum heat rejection and UV protection. This is not the only high quality tint out there, but most are not in the same category for quality and protection.

I am not a fan of dark tint either so I went with 40% on the sides and back (they don't make 35%, next darker is 20%), and 70% on the windshield. The 70% on the windshield is essentially clear and IMHO does not affect visibility during the day or night while driving. I added the windshield since I wanted the full heat rejection and UV protection from all windows on the car.

Sorry for all the pics below but hope it helps you:

Here's Mine, 35% Llumar ceramic tint at night (but very bright backlighting at the dealership):

And during the day at different angles because it matters:

At night there was some backlighting making it look more see-though than it really is. The day picture is more accurate - creates a lot of reflection. Its fairly dark, but max allowed in my state. Doesn't affect visibility for me day or night. Didn't want the rear windows darker than the fronts. According to the shop that did my tint ceramic tints look slightly darker than non-ceramic at the same transmittance rating.

Up close to the car you will be able to see the Sakir interior with 35% but farther away it will look very dark. Congrats on the car!

Ceramic tint gives you the heat reduction of metallic tint without the reduced radio and signal reception. It looks the same as regular tint. ie you can get better heat reduction even with lighter tint compared to limo tint.

you could also do what we did with my wifes B9 S4- tint the back glass 20% and the rest 35% .. she didn't want dark tint- but I thought 35% was too light. 20% on the back glass darkens the car and blends nicely- without darkening up the front glass too much.

I did 35% all around on my MG M4.
I find it dark, classy, and functional in all conditions.

I like privacy so I went with 18% Suntek CXP all around except windshield. On sunny days you can easily see through it. I have Silverstone interior so I think that doesn't make it look as dark. I plan on doing 70% on the windshield for extra protection.

Tint looks great, which make of Lumar tint is that? Formula 1 or Stratos?

There's FormulaOne Pinnacle and FormulaOne Stratos with the latter being the superior of the two.

Not proven Stratos is superior except 200 bucks expensive than pinnacle

Where's the proof it's not superior? Look at the technical specifications for the film. How is it not superior? If you don't want to pay the difference then just say that.
