Can I tell if car was tuned?

Hello I'm in the market for either a m235i or 335i but I'm leary of a tuned car.

Is their a way to find out if it was tuned via the Ecu chip or a piggy back tune?

I have ISTA and the other BMW software suite

Thanks

Don't have an N54/N55, but I believe JB4 things will be tucked away and spliced into the wiring under the ECU box. Most common tuning mod. Also look for fancy downpipes or single/non-bmw turbos. Another dead give away of tuning.

Possibly module latest update date?
