Those whose 1er is in hibernation, what have you been doing?
Real talk, I miss driving my 128i. The GTI during winter is a blast but I really miss my heated steering wheel and just imagining how easy it is to tear up a parking lot blanketed in snow is a thought that makes me grin.
What has everyone else been doing?

Looking at it every single day, learning more about xenon retrofits. And the car needs serious detailing due to the scratches and stone chips.
Can't wait to start it up.

I have had it out a couple times just when the roads are nice, though I got caught yesterday in the snow. :/
So far I have bought the JB4 upgrade, downpipes soon. Going to buff it out and clean the hell out of it soon. |

I take it out only when the weather is good for a few days strait. Then starting it about every other week. This Friday I'm taking it to Loesch's house and we are installing a spec stage 2+ Clutch and flywheel and meth kit and inline fuel pump. Worked on swapping more of the interior orange LEDs to blue. Did the free BMS backend flash. Made my own phone mount last week. Also messing around with obd2 wifi adapter and dash command. Can't wait for spring!!!!

Hey if you need advice, shoot me a pm. I retrofitted HID projectors into my halogen reflector housing on my 128i.

My 135i is hooked up to a trickle charger, if I dont use the 135i for up to a week. Fixed my paint chips the other day using ChipFixx - Professional Custom Mixed Auto Touchup Paint kits (Canada based and similar to Dr Colorchip kit). Gave her a quick spray wax the following day. Will be replacing brake rotors and pads, and maybe E92/M3 front sway bar, and rear E92/M3 control arms before lapping season starts in late April... Thank god for my heated garage ...

@Gray_Panther if you search for blue LEDs you'll find more but here's one. The radio has me stumped for now. One day I'll get it. For some reason in the pictures they look more greenish than the instrument cluster. In real life they are the same color as the instrument cluster. This pic doesn't show it but the climate control is done too and the passengers side window switch is done. Also did the sunroof switch.

Here's one where you can see the climate control in the corner. Took this after I made the phone mount.

Yeah, it was me. I started about a year and a half agowith the LEDs. Slowly piece by piece it's changing. This is the first year I've been able to keep her in the garage during the winter. So I get to do stuff that I couldn't before. Although the exhaust fell off my beater car the other day. Hahahaha. And it only runs on 3 out of 4 cylinders, And I don't care. It's so funny when people stare at me because I drive the loudest most ugly thing. But they don't know what lurks in the garage.
But it's a great feeling now when I have the 1er taken apart, I don't have to rush and be like oh no I have to get to work in the morning.

It's such torture opening the garage door to park my winter car and seeing my 1er sitting there doing nothing

I don't technically put mine in hibernation; I drive it on nice days even if its cold.
But this winter its almost never decent enough to drive it. If I'm lucky it goes out once a week.

It's nice to have a car that's not your daily driver. I keep my 128i outside under the factory cover (I have an historic home with no garage - until I figure out the "correct" way to add a garage.)
I wish it didn't have to stay outside but the cover seems to protect the paint and keep interior temps lower in the summer. |

Just be careful with the cover. If there's any grit on the car prior to covering it you might get some sandpaper action going on with the wind as well as taking it off/on. A couple coats of good wax goes a long way also towards protection.

Mines sleeping with all the snow and salt on the roads. I just start her up every couple days let her get fully warmed up.

Basically the same here.. Take it out on a nice warm day if the roads aren't covered in salt. I just got a car cover to try and keep the dust off of it. I did get downpipes, intercooler, charge pipe, and intake on over the holidays.. And back-end flashed. Now the cars running better than ever. Too bad it looks like it's going to be under that car cover for the foreseeable future..
