Digital key card

so I accidentally left my card in my clothes and it went through the laundry. Was bent up but still worked fine. Yesterday I was messing around trying to see if I could bend it back and I think I broke the chip. Anyone replaced one of these and know how much it is? Also, I know a while back there were talks about using your phone as a key, but wasn't sure what happened with that. Lastly, I was pretty frustrated that there aren't any remote start options for this car apparently.

Remote start is an option.

Press the BMW logo on your key fob 3 times consecutively and the vehicle will remote start.

Also, their are several remote options on the android and apple app for your phone/tablet where you can send various remote options such as starting, locking/unlocking the doors, and climatizing the vehicle to name a few.

Have you looked at your owner's manual? Each vehicle has different options so you need to verify what options you ordered with your vehicle. Then you can find instructions for those in your hard copy owner's manual or in the built in digital manual that's contained in the vehicle, on a downloadable free app, and on the Connected Drive website.

Yeah, I knew the key fob starts it but I meant electronically from the app or remote from bmw roadside. I've had several bmws in the last few years but would've thought a remote start from roadside was an option.

If you have the Remote Start option from the factory, you can start the car with the key fob or the ConnectedDrive app. If you can't start it with the ConnectedDrive app, there is either a problem with your account or the ConnectedDrive servers are having an issue (which happens from time to time).

Not really sure. My app doesn't show the option to remote start. The key fob does it of course. I looked at my connected account and it shows my phone has the ability to be used as a key, but I'm not sure how I activate it.

Nevermind. Saw it in the app. It would've been nice for my "genius" to let me know to register my phone at the dealership for the ability to use the phone as a key

Also, currently in the US, only android phones work as an actual key where you don't even need a key fob present to unlock, start the car, and drive off without having a key fob or a digital credit card key. Additionally, android phones on the Verizon network won't currently work as a key either. There is apparently some issue with Verizon not allowing NFC to work with BMW Automobiles.

And... Even if you do have a compatible Android phone, it might not be as convenient for you as you might think. To unlock your car, you still need to take the phone out of your pocket and "tap" your door handle (just like with the key card). And once inside the car, you need to place your phone on the wireless charger to start the car (again, just like with the key card). The ability to use your phone to unlock and start your car using the proximity functionality that is resident with your key fob (so you can keep it in your pocket/purse), is on the horizon. But who knows when it will be here...

I'm a huge bmw Fanboy but they need to step this up. Only issue I've found with this suv is the lack of automatic lowering that's pretty common in competitor vehicles but other than that, i don't think another suv touches the m50i x7

The Digital Key Release 3.0 specification will enhance Digital Key Release 2.0 by adding passive, location-aware keyless access. Rather than having to pull their mobile devices out to access a car, consumers will be able to leave their mobile device in their bag or pocket when accessing and/or starting their vehicle. Passive access is not only vastly more convenient and a better overall user experience, it also allows vehicles to offer new location-aware features.

To support these new features, the CCC is developing a specification based on Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) in combination with Ultra-Wideband (UWB) to enable passive keyless access and to allow secure and accurate positioning.

Nice! Except now they're doing this for apple but not for Android?

These auto manufactures need to get it together. They need to support both platforms not just one or the other.

Maybe they're waiting for Android Auto to get implemented first before they make this feature available for Android users. I certainly hope so...
