I know that X7s have built in antitheft alarm systems built into them but I have never had them working on mine. Probably I might have some sensors/features disabled or not properly set?

Here is what I have experienced most of the times;
1. I leave the car unlocked (engine off), Key fobs far away from the range of the car in a parking lot. Leave the car like that parked for over 20 minutes. I reach back out to the car (of course without the key fobs AND my Phone with me) and open the driver side door sit inside the car for a while, touch the interface buttons etc. and no any kind of panic alarms sound!!

Situation #2:
Leave the car unlocked for a while and everything else explained as above in #1 above, I shake the car hard enough from the outside (pretending that any gyroscopic/motion sensors would come into play and the car would sound the alarms but nothing happens!!

Anyone else encountered it? Am I doing something wrong here? I feel like if I forget to lock the car someone can easily break in and do something.

Edit: sorry guys I didn't realize that the anti theft systems come into action when the car is locked. I kinda feel shy

Maybe the problem is the fact that you didn’t lock the car... try to lock it an grab through the open window...

My alarm went off in front of my office for no reason a few months ago. Went back and checked the security cameras, and nothing obvious.

Are you saying that the Drive Recorder will trigger an "event" when the alarm system is triggered while parked? Or are you referring to the security cameras around your building/parking lot...?

My alarm went off the other day and I couldn't figure out what the heck set it off. After closer inspection, I realized that my radar detector's suction attachment had released and it fell into the passengers seat. Guess it works

Can't wait anymore to see that "sentry mode" of Tesla on the X7. They have all the hardware that those Teslas have.

I guess BMW needs a serious software team that know how to code things.

Oops sorry.

CCTV cameras on my storefront office. Not the drive recorder.

Well, if you are often put your car in the garage you can try to forget about these issues and install the proper security system, so you will need to think about locking your car because car will be inside of the additional security system, personally, i don't lock my car ever after I park car in the garage. I use this professioanl service as my main security system contractor, https://wyesecuritysolutions.co.uk/ maybe it will be useful in your situation.

That will never happen unless we get an electric X7 or at minimal a plug in hybrid.

Sentry mode uses a lot of power. Tesla has a huge battery pack to power it. X7 does not.

Alarm must be armed

It is my understanding that the alarm system must be armed (turned on) to monitor the vehicle, and that is accomplished by locking the car.

Apparently, even with the Tesla Sentry mode, you have to turn it on. Otherwise it would be a giant hassle setting off the alarm more often than necessary with any activity involving the vehicle at any time.

When we get to mind control of the cars, that will help!!!

That's true. Sentry mode in my Tesla uses around 2% of the battery per hour! Without Sentry mode, the usual drain is 1-2% a day.

I know if I wear skinny jeans and shift my weight the right way with my fob in my pocket the panic alarm will go off.

Is it really considered a “break-in” if the vehicle is UNLOCKED?

FYI…unless BMW changed things with the X7…the IMS (interior motion sensor) & TILT sensors have a delayed activation of approx 20 seconds. So if you want to test them…you would need to roll a window down…lock the vehicle…then wait approx 20 seconds…then stick your arm inside the cabin and wave it around. The siren should sound off.

Same with the tilt sensor…it takes 20 seconds AFTER locking the vehicle.

You can also press the button on the remote to activate the PANIC alarm. This should be covered in your owners manual on how to activate it. If you don’t have the physical manual…there’s one built into iDrive (which also has a search feature). Just type “ALARM” into the search field.
