Ricciardo lapped .222 slower than Vettel's pole time. That's incredibly fast for a test driver. He was 1.5 seconds up on the next fastest guy.

while very fast you also have to consider that their was a 55 lap race laying a ton of rubber on the track providing more grip for the test. Not taking anything away from the lap, just saying that its not a true 2 tenths off the pace.

Another thing to take into account, it is post season testing...so the car might not be 100 percent legal...Just saying...take the times with a grain of salt.

I'm fairly certain the cars are legal. And the amazing part of his time was the gap to the next car.

What basis do you have to say that your fairly certain the cars are legal. I didnt say they dropped a v10 in it, Im just saying they may be testing some parts for next year thus the car is not still in full RB6 trim.

Hmmm...I didn't get that from any of the pics. He seems quite at ease. Who knows what's going on inside that head of his though.

So i'd guess since this is a FIA sanctioned session. So they can test a few new parts on the car.
However, in the team's perspective, this can only give them a baseline of how will the new parts integrate into the new chassis next year. They will prefer to have feedbacks from their prime drivers instead of young test drivers. So these sessions can only do so much, but still, better than nothing.

The quote doesn't prove the allowance of anything, only that they did testing.

Yep, I think teams are responsible to provide any drivers with safety overalls in ALL FIA sanctioned testing and race sessions. Especially with the shoes, gloves, helmets and overalls are tailor suited to perfection, every single one is custom made to a specific driver.

Not sure about small teams, but its a very small price to pay for a possible future WDC for the team. e.g. Sebastian Vettel (even he tested in BMW Sauber and went of STR/RBR later), Lewis Hamilton...just to name a few....

and now he posted an even faster lap time than Vettel's pole position time.
I understand the track condition, car set up, temperature and humidity are different than last Saturday qualifying....but nonetheless, its great to see the young drivers doing great!

Any idea how Sam bird's time vs. Rosberg or MSC was?

Think he is the current #1 driver for ART GP. ART has been the team to watch in GP2 with the exception of this year.

On Pastor Maldonado, I dont know about him. Something about him just puts me off. I don't think he is really anything special of a driver either. He was in ART and flopped, went to Rapax and won but its like his 3rd year in GP2. Most of the prodigy's spend like 1 year in GP2, win, then move up to F1.

+1. He's been in GP2 for a bit. I guess that's why Sergio Perez already has an F1 contract in place while Maldonado is still trying to find one. But his times don't look that great and I hate that he'll still probably get signed solely based on the sponsorship money he generates.
