Carpet lights

I noticed last night in the dark that the carpet lights illuminate a couple of feet further back on the drivers side vs the passengers side. Can someone look at theirs tonight to see if it's the same for all? Thank you!

Carpet lights as in the projected lines of light on the floor? If so, mine seem even.

I'm eyeballing about 19.5 inches from the start of the light to the fender on both sides. Pretty even on mine.

I'm talking how far back they project. My drivers side goes past the back of the vehicle, whereas the passenger side doesn't make it to the back of the vehicle.

Wait, are you talking about the exterior projector lights on the ground or the ambient lighting in the footwell?

*EDIT*

Ok yes, you're talking about the exterior project lights. Mine extend evenly all the way to the back of the car and fade out.

Driver side looks normal, passenger does not. Someone already complained that these lights are held in place by double sided tape (?). Here's the thread: welcome light projector loose

Mine's in the garage and it's cold outside. But it looks like mine are not the same length either. The Driver's side is shorter than the passenger side. They are really dirty so that might be part of the problem. I'll clean them up and check them again later. Mine don't project back nearly as far as huskerdoc2020's do.

What do you want to bet that BMW has no standard spec for these?

  1. There is a spec for the carpet light (130cm/10ft)
  2. Gotta keep that area clean where the light projects from.
  3. And the light beam pattern can be adjusted.

Carpet light module = #1
Holder for carpet light module = #2

This kind of info is outstanding for the forum.

I'm glad there is an adjustment and a spec for the carpet lights. Thanks for posting this information Qsilver7. Where did you get this information from?

I don't get the 130cm/10ft thing. 130cm is a little over 4 feet. What am I missing? It's been a long day.

Notice the distance of the light pattern right under the doors. If you look at the spec picture you will notice that that's where you need to take the measurement. And, ahem, 130cm is not 10ft, sorry.

I just looked at mine and noticed that my drivers side one is dangling around in there and not even displaying on the ground. Have to take a look when I get time and see what is going on. Thanks for adjustment tips!!

I had this exact same issue on my X3 when it first got delivered, I noticed it at night. When I had to bring the car to the dealer for another issue I discussed this with my SA, it was in fact a mistake. They had to correct the projector for the light and align it. It's worked perfectly since, both driver and passenger lights are perfectly in alignment now.

Make an appointment with the dealer or wait for your next service and they will correct the issue.

Same — 2019 40i and my driver side lights extend ~2' farther than the passenger side's.

Don't take it to the dealer for something this simple. Takes no time!
