Sadly it seems like it, although even BMW is guilty of this. In the 8-series (even the $133k M8 coupe), the entire center console tunnel and lower doors are hard touch plastics like a 3-series unless you opt for the extended leather packs. And its also not like this hard touch plastic is very low and away from the driver, its very high up by your knees and was one of the first things I noticed when I first sat in the 8 and thought it was stupid to put hard touch plastic in a vehicle starting at $110k! (This was before the 840 was available)

But we all know what this is really about. $$$
Try and order a Porsche. From contrasting seat stitching to leather covered key fob. Multiple transmissions with sub categories as to what options for that transmission. Ash tray delete. It's insane.

For nearly a decade MB was behind the times and not outselling anyone. Audi & BMW were crushing it.

Squeaks and rattles and quality of interior are apples and oranges so your point is irrelevant.
Guess not anymore. |

Mercedes still outsold BMW globally though and has been for years, so... got to remember, U.S. sales aren't the only important metric. I think they also only sold roughly ~8500 less vehicles in the U.S. so not too much of a loss, not to mention the SEC scandal for BMW could easily have accounted for a lot of sales.

That’s total nonsense! Of course summer tires are more quiet! They have less profil and the rubber gets much softer because in summer the outside temperature is also much warmer. The most impact has the tire tread

I was at a car show yesterday and got to examine the 2020 GLS 450 up close. It's a very nice update and has a lot to offer but falls short in few areas. The first and most annoying was the headroom accessing the drivers seat. I put the drivers seat all the way back and all the way down and still my head brushed the top of the door opening. There was a 2020 GLE sitting beside it and I had more headroom getting into it. The second area of concern was the quality of the leather seat covers. They didn't look like MB quality seats. They felt good to sit on just appeared to be lower quality than expected. Lastly, using the new MBUX touchpad is not user-friendly and the large twin tablet looks like MB should have put more thought into finishing the dash with some leather over hangs similar to the S Class. I say this as a previous owner of three GL/GLS's. After viewing every similar SUV on the market I was happy to return to my X7 which has the most comfortable seats I sat in that day.
