Good news: Remote OTA software updates is finally WORKING in the US!!

I just got a remote update availability notification from my app. I was able to update the software from 11/2019.55 to 11/2019.70.

I will post more details and pics later. Enjoy!

EDIT: As specified, I have tried to put the images that I was able to shoot while the process of Over the Air update was going on.

I also made last week the remote software update ( but I am not in US ).Everything went smooth.But 11/2019.70 is the latest version ?

No - there is a 3.2020 version out for some time in the US. July should be released in 6-8 weeks. Doesn't appear anything noticeably different than the November update - but that one allows for Spotify integration.

Thanks for the info.... Oddly enough I tried over the weekend because I was loading new music into the vehicle and nothing happened. Hopefully when I try again I may upgrade to the latest and greatest. Thanks again!

If you registered your vehicle via https://connecteddrive.bmwusa.com/, you should see the Remote Software Upgrade option. Click on details for the specific instructions.

I guess not much. Just make sure that your Connected Drive App (iPhone or Android) is up to date and that you have OPTED to receive the OTA updates in the OTA updates area of your App.

Yep, keep trying. I don't know if this is connected to it but if you do not have the Drive Recorder App in your iDrive (and that you are using a 2019 X7) try to sign in to your Connected Drive account on your PC and request to have the Drive Recorder service added to your subscriptions/services. I added it last night as a TRIAL for 30 days and the later today in the afternoon I saw the OTA update notification!

11/2019.70 is for sure not a latest version but what made me feel good (and exhausting,

) to finally see the OTA in action here in US!

Based on the times displayed via your screen it appears the download and upgrade took about 30 mins? Is that correct?

Ohh yes I think it did take about that much and all this time I was very worried about not getting any phone calls on my phone because I didn't want to mess up the upgrade process.

I suggest that you put the cellular feature of your phone to stay off during this process.

Does anyone know how many iterations of the iDrive software versions came on after 11/2019.70 version?

I am asking this because I believe the OTA software update is a n-1 current version of the software. I heard that many users have 03/2020.XX on their vehicles through the dealers (here in the US). If there were a couple of versions released after 11/2019.70, I think I should expect another upgrade notification soon?!

Not only is the over the air updates working, you can subscribe to the BMW Drive Recorder app, 149.00 lifetime subscription, for 2019 x7 purchased April 2019. I did, it works.

you need to use the connected app, it downloads to your pad or phone, and then to your car.

My guess is BMW is rolling out the update notifications slowly to help preserve server bandwidth. I have not seen it either....

Makes sense, seeing the same thing here as well.

From the connected drive site, they seem to just say you have to wait for the push notification:

1. UPGRADING VIA YOUR BMW'S EMBEDDED CELLULAR CONNECTION.

NOTIFICATION OF AVAILABLE UPGRADE: As long as push notifications are activated, in the BMW Connected app, you will receive a push notification on your smartphone as soon as a new upgrade for your BMW is available.

I have a 2019 50i. IDrive 7/2019. My bmw connectedDrive states that the Recorder Drive is not available for my Vin. I assume that 50i should have all required hardware. Anyone is unable to add the recorder to their 2019 X7?

Same for mine 40i. Mine was delivered in Nov 19 but with all the features.

Yes. 2019 X7 50i here, delivered early June 2019.

Drive recorder installed last weekend.
