Cast vs. forge
Most OEM BMW wheels are cast. Many aftermarket wheels are forged, sometimes centers as well as hoops are both forged, which makes a really nice wheel. Forging produces drastically superior strength, defect and fatigue performance. Forged parts are as much as 60% stronger than cast parts! This combined with good design can really lower the weight of a wheel. Of course bad design which focuses only on looks will usually yield a heavier product even with forged parts.

I have seen a ton of folks at BMW CCA events that can drive circles around me that are both lowered and have flashy rims! I do agree that there are certainly a lot of posers who want to look fast and will never be. Agreed also that lowering and rims are probably some of these folks most common add ons. However, damning all of us who like to show a little flash and individuality is a bit harsh, isn't it? Heck we all care about aesthetics don't we?

Spoken like a true purist. Although I do lean very heavily in this same direction (and my current E36 M3 is just about 100% consistent with this philosophy), I'm still just not liking the possible new M3 OEM wheels at all (the split 10 spokers ones floating around in mule shots). I bet I will like whatever hits the showroom floor better though, whether is it this wheel or a slightly improved version of it.

well if i have 9 grand to spend on rims, i will go for HREs in a heart beat
but i like the "competition" rims on previous model, e46. i like the stock look and if i want to do any mods, probably a drop |

RAC Monolites...either a 9.5 or 10 in wide front....and depending on the fender flare of the rear.....anywhere from 10in to 11in. rear....depending on the fenderflare/inner fender wall dimensions.
