Thanks for the link; interesting thing is I am getting this with our new 2021 X7 and have it in the shop at the moment. BMW has advised our dealer to replace a motor with the seat which maybe causing the error to pop up.

How did the seat motor replacement go? I have same issue with 2019 and just dropped it off for replacement. SA is saying it’s a lot of work and may require keeping the car for days . Just calling me now to say it’s going to take days.

I had this message on my X7 couple of time. I had to open (unfold) 3rd row seat and then close it and the message went away. There was once this message stayed, took it to the SA, when the mechanic did the same in front of me the message went away.

This is been reported by multiple members and BMW should do some design changes to avoid this inconvenience

I was able to get rid of the error by Pulling on the latch on top of the seats (middle captains chairs) to make them go back up first...then as the went back down, they went into the proper place. I guess I was lucky.

All the darn time

We get this error a lot- my car has been in several times and I had a 2019 with this problem but the seats would not always go down or go back up. Absolutely no solutions but BMW knows the seats in the X7 are in issue with respect to the errors and no answers. This is my second X7 and I have had it in both- one with a bench and one with captains chairs

I had the same issue last week but with the left side. Brought it in to the dealer and according to the tech the software needed to be restarted. According to him, if it keeps occurring they need to remove the seat and reinstall it.

My Rear Seat Fix

Had this same issue. It was driving me mad. Tried everything. Here's what fixed it or me.

Traded it in:

I'm kidding.

Seriously this is what worked for me:

*I have the bench seat

1. Ensure the window locks for the rear windows are not locked.

2. The seat with the unlocked issue (mine was right). Move ALL THE WAY forward with the lower button on the side of the seat.

3. Move to the rear of the vehicle and use the max luggage button to let all the seats down. Let this process fully complete then:

4. Use the max seating button to return all the seats to upright position.

Done. This fixed my issue. If I had to guess; the key action in this process was ensuring the unlocked seat was moved all the way forward and left in that position before completing action #3.

Hopefully this helps someone else.

This sounds like the old sun roof or windows recalibrate method. It’s like you have to reteach the car where the seats are so you must max out their adjustment settings in both directions.

Hi all. I just had my seat modules re-coded to version S18A-21-03-530 per the PDF release above, and unfortunately, it hasn't resolved the issue.

I live in Bozeman, MT, so the nearest dealership is in Idaho Falls, which is 4 hours away one way during the winter. Any ideas on how to check/reset this myself? If not, does anyone have experience submitting a warranty claim from a non dealership shop to cover the cost of the repair? My local shop is an authorized BMW repair center, but not a dealership.

Thanks in advance,
Todd

Have you try to fold your second raw seats from the panel in the trunk?

Unfortunately, as you can see, there are various reasons why you get that error. A couple of times, I had a small obstruction, and I was able to correct myself. Two other times, it had to go into the dealer for sensor replacement and the last one, calibration.

Just got this on my week-old car with 450 miles. Actually, have it on left rear seat and right rear seat back at the same time. So far, none of the suggestions have helped.

I had the same warning come up on the dashboard. Seat was working properly but the annoying warning bothered me a lot. Took it to the dealership and it was a very quick fix. They had to recalibrate the seat and all is well now. In some cases the issue might be different due to stuck objects under the seat or something else but in my case it only needed recalibration.

Hope this helps someone with the same or similar issue.

Same issue with my '22 X7 msport. Just picked it up last week and have this error with less than 500 miles on the car. So far one time it cleared on it's own but then returned shortly after. Still reporting now. Going to try the max buttons later.

I was getting those in the beginning. What helped was to wait until the seat stops moving before readjusting it. If I was impatient and adjusted before it reached full stop, it would throw that message at me.

What did you do to fix it? I've tried all the ideas.

I have the bench seats and I just got this issue fixed with left back seat then a week later it popped up for the right side.

This issue never happened when it was new seems to be getting worse over the years, this is a 2020 Jan build.

Been in to fix these issues 6-10 times now

Nothing really. Just folded it again, waited until it stopped moving and then unfolded it and again waited until it stopped. If it doesn't help, you can also try to press "reset to base" button next to adjustment levers to see if it helps.
