So far it has been good except my CarPlay stopped working and no resolution after deleting my phone completely. Going to mess around more to see if anything else has issues.
For CarPlay, crazy as it sounds, try changing the name of your phone (i.e. from Dudebro-iPhone to Dudebro iPhone). This fixed an issue for me where i could not get carplay to work no matter what.

My wife’s phone isn’t working either though. My phone already has a custom name too. I’ll try changing to see if it fixes. Otherwise, anyone know how to do a soft reset?

For anyone that deals with this, just hold down power until the screen cycles black then reboots. Then let go of power and CarPlay worked.

Just so you know, that screen does not tell you what head unit you have in the vehicle. It is just a general disclosure for the software. We have seen X7's produced last year showing the same info as 24's. You need to have someone run your VIN in the parts database to check for the head unit associated with your vehicle.

I have a 24 X7m60i that I think was a late June build. How do I tell what version of headunit and iDrive software it has. I didn’t ask for anything special as part of PDI as I was uneducated on this.

Settings for iDrive seems to show a software version of 03/2023.65 and running update software and apps yields “software is up to date”.

I’m heading to the dealer as per the Genius line as they said I need a software update to get the Personal eSIM working. We did all the setup with Verizon and rebooted the car computer a dozen times but the eSIM activiation still won’t complete on the vehicle side.

You have the High Head Unit 5. iDrive will always show that the software is up to date unless an update has been pushed to the vehicle. Since they are updating you they should update you to 8.5, ask them beforehand to make sure they are.

Dealer said the version I’m on 2023.65 is the most current but they didn’t instill confidence. Turned out i fixed the eSIM issue I was having just deleting all phones from the car and re-pairing.

So while eSIM is working, I’ve not determined if I’m on 8.0 v 8.5. Is there a way to tell from the idrive settings info screens?

Google it. The screen setup is different. You'd have a widget on your screen and extra touch buttons on the bottom, aside from just the HVAC temp buttons, if you had 8.5.

3/2023.65 isnt the latest dealer install

07/2023.33 was the latest at the dealer as of 2 weeks ago.

IDrive 8.0 home screen has quick access icons along the left border plus “climate menu” button at the bottom.
IDrive 8.5 home screen has tile widgets At left 1/3 of the screen and quick access icons along the bottom.
See pics, first one 8.0, second one 8.5

To summarize:
  • 2024 X7 - August+ build: Will come with MGU5 and ID 8.5 from factory --> Will also support ID9 in the future (if BMW decides to offer it as an OTA)
  • 2024 X7 - April-July build:: compatibility is confirmed as mentioned in the past. BMW will offer a software update for ID 8.5 --> may not support ID9
  • 2023 X7: as indicated nearly a year ago before orders were opened, sorry guys, no changes. this model year (2023 LCI) has been left out from a number of things, starting from the newer service pack, high-way hands-free driving, and now again ID8.5 The vehicle is not even compatible with ID 8.5 or other features.

Here am using MGU5 vs HU5 interchangeably; formally/internally known as (Head Unit High 5)
This post would be nice to include in the very first post of this thread for reference.

By the way I started this thread long long long long time ago before even anyone knew what the refresh or all about. I hope that helped some of you to make the best decision for yourself. Glad it helped some people. Good luck everyone.

The V8 is reliable enough, for 99% of buyers it'll last until they sell the car.

Not sure how this has changed on the new ones with mild hybrid though.

Also the price difference has gotten a lot higher. I priced out a '24 40i and M60i recently, not only are they quite a bit more expensive than the '22 models, but there's a huge gap between the 40i and M60i now. I don't remember the exact numbers but I think it was something like an $14k difference for the engine when both cars are equivalently optioned? Plus $4k extra since you can choose not to get the M Sport package on the 40i

Personally, I can't imagine getting a 40i without M-Sport.

That being said, the 40i has almost 400hp and is plenty fast. That's why I chose it over the M60i.
