Just got notified from my dealer that BMW issued a stop sale on all 2023 X7s effective yesterday afternoon. Issue with the lights and the ETA for the fix is in October. Sucks cause I was suppose to pick mine up on Monday.

I also just got a call. Was just heading out the door to pick up my X7 today and delivery was canceled due to the stop sale. Estimated release for the software update required to rectify is mid-October. Not crying or anything. LOL.

Does this impact vehicles on the road already? Wonder what changed in recent builds.

Oooof I feel your pain. It’s a kick in the nuts. That’s why I said yesterday, I’m actually glad mine is still stuck in QC so hopefully when I get it, it will all ready have all of these issues fixed… then there will be more issue’s in the future I’m sure.. lol!

But if its really going to hold it up until mid October I may have to walk away from it and keep my X5 for now.

Yep, my vehicle is in transit and I was told that it won't be available to pickup until mid to end of October. After 40 days in QC....

Yeah it sucks. I'm half tempted to drive down and see/sit in it but that will probably make it worse. I just hope that there's some type of escalation that happens with BMW for a quicker resolution than the end of October. That's a lot of cars for their dealers to not be able to sell in the meantime.

I'm not getting how everyone who already has their X7 is able to drive it but for the orders, they can't be released to us until the software is updated. I'm assuming the orders that are with owners already have the same issue. Is it some sort of liability issue since the car is still in the dealers name?

Car just got to dealership an hour ago. Can't pick it up for 3-4 weeks. SA hopes update will only take 7-10 days. He did say it was a federal recall and due to liability, they can't sell cars even though sold cars are affected as well.

I'm in the same boat. I moved my PC delivery from the 14th to the 30th. Would have had it if I'd kept the 14th, but I'd rather them get everything straight, avoid trips to dealer, and not pay for it until it's good to go.

What additional info. are you being provided? I heard about this last week Friday. It's a tough pill to swallow when you're vehicle is in QC for a month.

Stop sale today

My car was ready to be delivered and they informed me that I cannot take the car until the software update is ready.

Probably this:

“Due to an electronic control unit (ECU) programming issue, potentially affected vehicles may not meet a Federal Requirement regarding the interaction between the turn signals and the day time running lamps. The ECU will be reprogrammed.”

This is normal, a government body steps in and mandates a fix and forces a stop sale, but they can't exactly stop existing product from operating. Existing product will be subject to recall/fix. In rare and life threatening situations they'll issue more defiant orders which are hard to enforce, but light blinkers won't get close to meeting that criteria.

Ultimately, it forces BMW to come to compliance more expeditiously and they'll address issues with delivered vehicles at appropriate service intervals. The US Government isn't out to get everyone, and they ride a fine line between compliance and reason-ability. Cars on the road won't stop operating or be forced to park unless they're deemed radically unsafe/incompliant (see Dieselgate scandal).

Unsold/undelivered vehicles put the pressure on a manufacturer to resolve the issues and more leisurely correct the in-field vehicles.

I was wondering so checked NHTSA today 9/24 and no recall showing for my VIN. My build 9/1. Picked up 9/10.
