X7 Headlight Issue
Hi All,
I just noticed the outer rim headlight on the passenger side of a new-to-me 2019 CPO x7 is out. Any ideas on a fix would be appreciated. I have a message in with the dealer to see if they’ll cover it, but haven’t heard back yet. I’ve tried to attach a picture. Thanks for any help. |

That can lead to a very expensive repair. CPO warranty does not cover headlights per my understanding. However, depending on how long it hsa been since you purchased it from them, they should fix it at no charge to you as a courtesy. Search for photos from day-1, and see if you see the same? I also think there is a standard 60-90 days mandatory coverage wherein they have to fix any issues regardless of which warranty you have by law (not sure about pre-existing vs new issues coverage).

Good news is that the eyebrow/lip LED that is out is lighted by a module that screws into the top or side of the headlight assembly.
I agree dealer should fix. At least the whole headlight assembly doesn’t need to be replaced. It looks like this below. This the bottom that lights the light. The top of it is a finned heatsink. I had to replace one in my X5 once. Thought I was looking at a whole headlight. But happy to find out that it was just this module. They are a couple of hundred bucks. Not crazy. You could probably get one off of eBay for cheaper also. Just make sure is a Genuine BMW part. Bad news is that it looks like the outer one is out. This means that the bumper cover and headlight would need to be removed to replace it. See next picture. The one that out on your X7 is the outer one with the arrow pointing to it. The other one circled is the same thing but for the other light inside. Unfortunately the one you have out is harder to get to. Last edited by Ace6180G07; 01-29-2023 at 02:24 PM.. |

You might try giving the dealer the following Service Information Bulletin (SIB) and see if they will honor the fix under CPO or at least a Good Will fix.

My 2021 M50i w/ laser light is currently with the dealer for this same issue. They are replacing the passenger headlight assembly. So glad it's covered under warranty! That's a really poor design requiring the replacement of the entire headlight because of a small light module. Thanks to this info, the dealer couldn't BS me into thinking it was something else.
Thank you all! |

The dealer is not replacing the headlight because a module is out. The dealer is replacing the headlight because the LED module burned the light tube in the headlight.
