2024 X7 with DHP vs. 2024 X5 50e

Hi. I have a X7 40i with DHP on order, but the power, price and efficiency of the X5 50e is giving me second thoughts. I see the 50e comes standard with air suspension.

How does the ride of these two compare?. Is the X7 softer and more of a plush feel?.

Any notable advantages of the X7 besides the third row?.

Thanks!.

The main reason to choose the X7 over the X5 is if you need the extra space and 3rd row. If that doesn’t apply to you then get the more affordable X50e.

Air suspension is standard on all X7. It’s also standard on the X5 50e and optional on the X5 M60i. It doesn’t appear to be an available option on the X5 40i models in the US.

bit of a ramble …

I had a 22 X7 M50 loaded; and currently in a 24 X5 50e until my X7 comes in next month.

I can say, having spent a year in the X7 M50i, and this being my 5th X5…

Go with the X7.

It’s a different and more luxurious driving experience overall. The backseat space alone, so worth it- I never use the third row, except maybe once a year - or to hold grocery bags in place. (Just us two guys, no kids, two smallish dogs)

The wider rear doors make ingress/egress on the 7 much easier and more enjoyable. The comfort is bar none (even with the X5 on air suspension). The little touchpoints just seem to be done nicer in the 7.

The day I purchased the X5, I regretted it.

X7 is more enjoyable to drive IMO.

The gas savings is great in the X5, but if you drive a lot like I do (Realtor), your electric bill will spike. We have home charging and I plug in every night - electric bill went up about $250/mo - equivalent to gas bill in an X5 40i I assume. So no real savings IMO.
I got the car 8/31. I’ve been to the gas station 3x.

Thanks for your advice.

I think I’ll stick with the X7.

You mentioned the bigger backseat space in the X7. Even though the website shows the same numbers in legroom for both vehicles, I feel the X7 has more legroom in the second row. Is this what you are referring to?.

You made me remember something I also noticed with the X5. The rear doors don’t open too much to go in and out as you said.

Wow $250 more a month for electric is a lot. While you probably drive more than me, I have 2 Teslas and my bill increased by $50-$70.

Yes- more legroom and wider doors - much easier for guests, pets, loading.

We live in CT - electric is outrageous here. No reason for it.

I have a '22 X7 M50 with DHP
A friend got a '23 X5 45e (w/ 2 axle air suspension)

The X5 rides so much worse than my X7. A huge step down. Not sure how much of that difference comes from DHP (with active comfort drive/road preview) and how much is due to a difference in suspension design & tuning between the X5 and X7.
