Best way to chase down rattles?
Hello everyone - I am the new owner of a CPO 2023 X7 xDrive 40i. 19K miles and I’m in love. However I am one of those who get very annoyed by even minor noises that my wife can’t hear.
I’m hearing some very, very faint rattling from the rear - seems to be behind the captains chairs, potentially even third row. What does everybody do here to track down and show dealership? Sit in the back while the partner drives? Any specialty tools? Any tips? |

There are no tools as far as I know. In my experience, you'll need to trace the rattle down and show it to the dealer so they can address it.
I'd also recommend finding the exact rattle source rather than assuming where it comes from before reporting it to the dealer. In my experience the dealer will mistakenly assume it comes from somewhere else and will try to disassemble the part and fix it. And a lot of times whenever they disassemble something it will never be the same again. Or they can even break something else. So even if the rattle is annoying, try to tolerate it before you find its source. Hope that helps. |

I just had the same issue with my 2023 X7. Tracked it down to the plastic cover between the third row seats covering the two female ends of the seatbelts. It had somehow unclipped and the plastic was rattling slightly. Best of luck.

Check the upper bump stop for the tailgate - I had that rattle on my previous 19 - a quick wrap with electrical tape (I think) put an end to it. There's a picture/tutorial in a thread on here somewhere.

Same issue with my 2023 sound coming from the area you’re describing. Took it to the dealership and the tech said he can’t hear it. Problem still exists Very annoying .
