I think they're awesome looking and come with some minor updates such as AC and brakes but still have the old Mercedes Diesel. If I had the money and the need for such a vehicle, I'd consider one of them.
Those look awesome! I've always liked the G for years, even the ridiculous and unnecessary models like the 4x4 squared or 6x6. They just seem so unique and cool in their own way, even just in the way the doors shut or how the locks sound when they engage. Its like a tank almost!

None of those are a luxury car brand so they’re not even a comparable.

So you'd buy one of the continuously least reliable car brands for the last 20 yrs for comfort and cruising. Sounds like the answer to "What would a Kardashian do?"

Proof that there are a lot people out there that care about what their neighbors think about them more then making the more logical choice. Aka the social media generation.
I own a RRS luckily have no issues. Cayenne I prefer to all the other mid size utes. I have a 911 so for me having the RRS is perfect with the 911

I don't like how the X7 looks or drives. Again it's a massive vehicle and I don't need a massive vehicle so personally have no interest in a X7. Compared to its competitors I'm sure it drives great although have not driven the new GLS. My best friend is a BMW dealer have driven the X7 and X5 a ton Nothing to do with my neighbors chief

That was the point. A luxury car is not a logical choice but a personal preference. No one needs a luxury car.

As for your comment about buying an RR because people care about what their neighbors think, you do realize most of the people who buy BMW's or any of the big three German brands these days are badge whores and care about looks and public perception, this isn't exclusive to RR.

BMW's have much better reliability then an auto manufacturer who is consistently at the bottom year after year. IMO that makes the buyer of a RR the biggest whore of them all.

unfortunately G wagon will be the cheaper vehicle to own despite the bigger up front nut. The way they hold their value is bonkers.

I love the X7 and think it beats the socks off of the direct competition but if I didn't need a third row there is no way I'd pick an X7 over the G. Its polarizing but the car still has something special to it that others don't.
Vast majority of X7's, and all BMW's for that matter, are leased. Depreciation isn't a factor. But yes I agree G wagon will hold its value better, however I would suspect that most G wagon's are not chosen because of their great resale value but rather their cool factor.

Many of us still purchase our vehicles outright. We had a similar discussion last year on the forum and there were a lot of us here that own our vehicles and never have leased them.

Statistics show about half the BMW sales lease their vehicles. Those statistics fluctuate up and down a few points depending upon the economy and source of data collection. It also shows the majority of those that lease are in the younger demographic.

You are incredibly lucky you have no issues. Both of mine had tons of problems and the infotainment screens lol, so slow and terrible.

I have heard and read in many places about poor relatability and issues with the RRS. I have not had anything major (knock on wood) and it's very comfortable. We made three cross country trips in it. I have a 2018 I like how the infotainment looks with the three screens. We got software update after software update to resolve the slowness. It worked somewhat.

BMW is the easiest to use and is fast. Prefer Idrive to any touch screen. BMW Def has the best interface by a lot.

little different car but I've got a Landmark LR4. Its had a million problems. Truly a complete POS and it goes through brakes like they were made of cardboard. BUT... its got something special about it, fun to drive, unique looks, luxurious but still tough... and holding its value like a MF (bought out my lease a year ago and could still sell it over my lease buy out price). I see it as a poor mans G wagon. Not sure I'll ever sell it.

I won’t rehash my 7 months of hell with my new RR ownership experience. Never again will a British car see my garage.

Impessive, both cars did well. G-wagon will be perfect for an off-road adventure.

Other then the looks and "unique" body style charm. The g wagon is trash and way over priced. Also feels wobbly when driving fast and in windy conditions. Why would I want that just for the wow factor. Might Aswell get a Bentley or put a few more hundred for a urus.

Those are interesting statistics. I've had discussions with managers at my local BMW dealership and they said it's pretty steady at about 10-15% of all BMW's going out the door are purchased/financed. The rest are leased. They attribute this primary to the relatively high residual values for BMW leases as compared with other brands like Audi for example which have much lower residual values for leasing. I guess it varies depending on what region of the country you are in.

I love these newer SUV's but people still take pics of my old G. There's something just so a German about it. I purchased mine as well. It's just so badass..
