Service Loaner
I had called the Genius line to ask some questions and they mentioned there was a service bulletin related to an engine management software update (and I'm hoping those 3 new apps finally show up). I scheduled an appointment this past Monday and the scheduler said they now had an X7 in the fleet and would hold it for me.
My X7 loaner vehicle is a 50i which had "only" been driven 121 miles (the previous driver was the service manager). I was surprised it wasn't the 40i, since they only ever had 740 loaners and no 750's. Anyone else getting X7 loaners? |

Wow, I think I need a different dealer (and I went with the one I have because of their superior reputation). My X7 is on its 2nd extended stay at the service dept (both times attempting to fix the sunroof shade). The 1st time they gave me an X5 40i loaner. This time the "best" they had was an X3. A 40k vehicle in exchange for a 100k vehicle! Needless to say, the service manager and I have a few things to discuss...
And as far as the 3 new apps in the June update; I could probably have lived contentedly without any of them. Especially since it seems they broke the connected drive remote functionality with the update. |

Totally depends on the dealership and service advisor. 7 series customers normally get a 7 or at worst a X5 or 5. I would expect the same if I ordered a $100k X7.

I get my cars serviced at a tiny dealer (around 20 new cars on the lot). I'm happy if they have a 330i, it's typically 320s and X1s, but at least I have the benefit of it being 1 mile away and an amazing SA.

They are a ton of fun to drive, but there is no difference in driving performance when you choose the “msport package.” Only difference is the exhaust. Now, the M50i will be another story.

+1 agree. The msport package is solely cosmetic. If you detect any driving characteristic differences. It’s either DHP, IAS, or tire options.

It may be the combination of a much better optioned x7 compared to an x5. More than like it has the DHP. I just assumed since the M50i states m sport differential that it must be different on the other cars too.

Well, there's a different steering wheel, which is the main item you interface with, so it certainly/literally "feels" a lot sportier while holding onto the car for dear life as you experience the body roll in a corner...

Steering wheel is the same design: only difference is that the bottom “spoke” is hollow on Luxury and solid on Sport. The only difference in actual driving dynamics is between the 40i and 50i engines.

Upon further inspection, the sport wheel does appear a tad smaller, and the center portion is a slightly different shape. I did a ton of comparisons before choosing which trim was best for me and was surprised to learn that the only true differences were cosmetic.

Lol, best loaner I ever got was a brand new 330i. Rest of the time it's X1s... and get this... Mini Coopers or Countrymen...! Mind you, it's probably one of the smallest, if not the smallest dealership in North America... but still... from my X5 to a Mini... ouch.

Just back from a service appointment, got a 750 as loaner. Not bad. Dealer is located in West Chester, PA.

There's only so many 7 Series/X7/X5 demo/loaners a dealership can or is willing to register and put on the road. I understand wanting to be put into the same or equivalent-value vehicle but that's not always possible. As long as I'm not put into a X1 or X2, I would consider getting into any BMW a win as long as I do not need to be put into a Discount/Enterprise loaner.
