Are there any aftermarket alternative for brake pads for the ‘23 X7 M60i?
The Squeal is ridiculous. I’m no stranger to performance brakes but this is a family car

Is there anyone with success on aftermarket pads, pads/rotor swap, or placing anti-squeak paste/glue on the back of the OEM pads. My wife's M50i has gotten so bad she actually wants to get rid of the vehicle now. We have had other performance vehicles including M cars and are accustomed to the cold squeal. This is way more than that. Even after the system it at temperature the brakes are always making noise. Dealer said pads are still within spec so they can't be replaced just yet (BMW service plan).

I have a 21 m50 with 21k miles. Front right brake started squeaking late this fall/winter and would do this above 50 degree and below. I took to independent and am a victim to the faulty bmw squeak pad. Even though I had 8mm left I couldn’t live with the noise and we swapped with Isweep. These pads are so far noise free, have same grip and you can actually see the rotor and brake caliber without all the dust.

Glad to hear you are happy now, but the pads should have lasted a little longer for sure. Our 21 X740i (with Msport-blue calipers) front pads started to squeal loudly at about 35k miles (esp. at lower temps and front right like in your case), but the pads triggered the sensor and were down to 3-4 mm. I DIYed the job with Brembo rotors all around and Brembo semi-metallic pads in front and BMW semi's in rear. Job was tough but getting all the correct part nos. was even tougher!

Brakes are nice and quite and grip well. If I'd use BWW front pads, probably would be more grippy, but that means more dust!! Lots of great posts and links on the forum-definitely couldn't have done the job as easily without them.

100% agree they should have lasted longer but it is what it is unfortunately. Trust me , if I wasn’t so noise sensitive I would have rode those breaks longer. I hope BMW changes the design in the future. I’m glad you like the Brembo and great job on the diy.

Has anyone with a XB7 experienced this brake squeal. I had 2019 Porsche Cayenne turbo and the brakes started squealing at 3,000 miles and never stopped until I got ride of it in July at 50,000 miles. Dealer would never change pads or rotors saying Porsche said squeal was normal. I never had brake dust on wheels but the high pitch squeal was beyond embarrassing. I have 5,000 miles on my XB7 now and I hope I don’t have to deal with issue again. I did buy the ultimate care + for 5 years/75,000 miles.

I have occasional squealing as well (at 41k miles), and I'm told that this is "normal" for M-sport brakes. I don't completely buy it. They weren't squealing about 5 months ago -- why now? The pads measured at 6mm front, 8mm rear. I'm looking into changing them to ceramic pads soon anyway, and hopefully that will resolve the issuel.

the adhesive bond between the pads and the calipers can break down over time. its high temp 3M vhb. once that bond is broken, the pads can vibrate and squeal.

Ah, thanks for the insight. Makes sense why they would squeal then. btw, do you think using a heat gun on low setting would make removing that adhesive easier when changing out pads? I'd be a little worried about damaging seals/boots though.

It might, i didnt have any issues with the boots, but i did do the swap outside in November, so heat might have helped.
I ended up prying them out by the pad ears, i put a plastic wedge between the caliper and the tool (big screwdriver) to keep from marring the caliper.
Cleaning the caliper from the old adhesive was a bigger pain. Shop rag and brake cleaner took forever. Might need to try adhesive remover- the non chlorinated brake cleaner doesn't seem to work as well as the bad stuff.

that's going to be the nature of semi-metallic brake pads, in very cold weather it will get noisy. it will go away once the temp gets warmer.

I have a 2022 XB7
Around 23k miles the brakes started squealing. At 24k miles the "change brakes" message appeared

Took the car in, and dealer replaced the rear pads (pads only...not rotors). The front pads were at 5mm and apparently "within spec"
The squealing persists, but they refuse to change the front pads since they are still at 5mm (Im at 28k miles, so essentially no wear down in 4k miles of driving).

They say BMW wont reimburse them when they send the used parts back to them. This is extremely frustrating. The noise is unbearable and they are starting to vibrate.
They chalk it up to "M brakes squeal due to their performance oriented"... hmmmmm never squealed once in the first 23k miles.

We've fought squeak brakes for over a year with dealership refusing to do anything about it since the pads were within spec. I've offered to purchase Ultimate Care Plus but they said they won't do brakes just because of squeaky noise. Finally, I gave up and found an indy shop to do just the brake pads and noise was gone. He used decent non OEM pads. Now the noise is 95%+ gone with some minor squeaks during wet weather.

point of note, with my OE pads, even with under 5K miles, when the temp drops into the 20s i would get some squeaking untill the brakes warmed up.
since switching to brembo NAO ceramic, not a peep, even though we had a decent cold snap and we've had salt on the roads and the attendant rust on the rotors.

I am hearing some squeaking from my M sport brakes; it’s February in Chicago. I was in the shop yesterday for the 1 year oil change and they estimated I’d lost 1 MM on each pad since I bought it (about 9k miles- mostly highway). In other words- they said the brakes were like new. Will see what happens with the squeaking…..
