We've had the prior gen GLS450 with the V8 for 8 years. It was a great car and ride. I thought my wife would just want the new GLS, since she's already had two. I encouraged her to drive both the new GLS and X7, but applied no pressure to go either way. She opted for the X7 hands down for a few reasons. The new GLS seemed like a minor evolution from what she had, the X7 was a much sportier/fun to drive for her, she liked the looks of the X7 inside and out much better (really likes the LCI). The GLS is as smooth of a ride as you'll will get, the X7 is a very nice balance and the adjustable suspension will provide something for about all occasions. I think MB lost this round because they just didn't go far enough to improve on the outgoing model.

I drove GL550's for years — had two of them and enjoyed them a lot. But when the X7 came out in 2019, I jumped on it. At the time, it was mostly because I wanted captain chairs and the GLS didn't offer them then. Within a couple drives after receiving the X7, I was sold. It's such a better car. Now, I haven't driven the new generation so I can't speak to how that one drives. But the X7 is night and day as far as sportiness, handling, and just feeling more like a car and less like a bus. I just ordered my 2nd X7, and while I didn't test drive a GLS, I have sat in one recently — a top tier fully spec'd 580 like I would choose if ordering one — and the finishes were nowhere near as nice as my fully spec'd 50i. It just didn't feel as plush. And when I built one online with the same options my on-order M60i, it was several thousands more. For what I consider less of a car.

I do regret not getting the 23" now that I have the 22" and how great the X7 air suspension system is.

I got my Frozen Pure Grey on the 23's and was worried I made a mistake because my GLS580 with 23 AMG wheels was rough and ton of road noise on highway. But on the x7 it is butter! Incredible the way they feel and NO NOISE on highway! Congrats though! Beautiful car!

I traded in my GLS580 for the X7 M60i and so glad I did! LOVING the X7 , in all aspects. But the GLS will be updated in 2024 - so not sure what is coming? But cannot compare the two. I LOVE IT

M60i is even more quiet than my old Lexus LS430, and as quiet as the 2022 S580 I drove a few times.

I am relieved to hear that - the reports about wind noise issues here made me a little nervous. As a former LS430, 460, GX460 and LX570 owner, I can appreciate being "more quiet than a LS430"…

I already experienced the windy Fall weather here in Westchester county New York, driving those tight hilly winding roads. Unless they are 50 mph gusts, I hardly hear or felt any of nature's greetings.
