How difficult is it to get a pilots license?

I think it varies on what you want to fly, where you want to fly, and when you want to fly.

Is there any vision cut-off? I know for the airforce you have to have 20/20 vision. I wear glasses when I sit in the back of class or when I'm at the movie theater.

I might not have the money to own my own plane, but at least I am lucky enough to do it as a job. I fly the embraer 135/145. Can't think of a better job, plus I get paid to do my hobby. Just got back from work and I cant think of any other work you could get me to do on a sunday that I would actually enjoy.

Love the Stearman btw, it is gorgeous.

Happy flying.

Commercial Instrument ME here. Went through Southern Illinois University's program (one of the top 5 in the country), finishing up my training in 1991. A LOOOONG story shortened...I don't fly for a living due to my ex's input (notice I wrote "ex?"), but every now and then I do have the pleasure of being able to do something on the weekends most others have only dreamed about. My favorite plane flown (for fun) has to be a Stearman a friend of mine owns. Slow, but sure and steady!

I'm not a pilot, but a flight dispatcher for a major airline, work in a control room. I'm jointly responsible with the captain for the safe, legal, and efficient operation of each flight. The test for the FAA Dispatcher License is the same as the ATP (Airline Transport Pilot) test except for the a few questions that deal with more technical details of piloting.

My father was an airforce/commerical airline pilot for more than 32 years. He did vietnam, then was hired by American Airlines, went off active duty and went to the Guard, was there for 25 yrs (minus the last 6 months working intelligence at the Pentagon).

He flew for American for 32 GREAT years, retiring just a few yrs ago. Below are some pics from his last Flight on the 777 out of JFK. Loved going on trips with him, loved his company and his job. Would have flown myself but the Military said no because of two shoulders surgeries stemming from my other passion (hockey.....I have a lot of passions) and with the landscape of commerical flying and the lack of stability my thought was if I fly for the military even if I can't get a stable job with the airlines, I'll just be a lifer with the military. But once the military was not an option, I pursued other loves.

My dad is in the left seat (obviously) and he is on the left in that pic with the FO. Ask me any questions you guys want about the pics, they are great shots, and I ABSOLUTELY LOVE THE 777. "IF IT AIN'T BOEING, I AIN'T GOING!!!"

777 is the best bird ever made...

Commercial (SEL + MEL), CFI, CFII, CFI-MEI here

How easy is it to get a license?
I'd say fairly easy. The instrument part is more challenging, but comes as a routine with the practice...
And yes, once you learn it, it does stay with you forever, however, practice is needed to stay ahead of the airplane...

Yes, its a great plane. Boeing in general I believe makes a much better product than MD did before Boeing bought them and definitely better than airbus......commerically speaking of course. Military jets are a whole other ball of wax.

I'm planning to go back to school as a commercial airplane pilot. I've been flying flight simulators since I was a little kid and I've always had a great interest in anything aviation, including drawing, designing, and building airplanes.
