That's one big fish!
This Sturgeon is Still alive, just worn out from the fight. They turned him loose after the photo. The fish was caught on the Willamette River just below Oregon City two weeks ago. When landed, it weighed out at over 1,000 lbs and measured 11'1', 56" around the girth, took 6 1/2 hours, 4 dozen beers and 4 guys taking turns at the reeling it-in.
Any Sturgeon OVER about five feet has to be released unharmed and cannot be removed from the water. They are brood / breeding stock and are probably older than most of us.

There's a Sturgeon fish farm right by Multnomah Falls, on the Willamette, outside of Portland. They have a few sturgeons that are a good bit bigger than that thing. If you ever get a chance, the Falls and the fishery are great fun!!
I had a conference in Portland last year and flew the wife out for a few extra days. Nice area! |
