13 F30 Brakes Question

Friend of mine buying 13 F30 335IX Xdrive with Msport, it has some odd combination brakes
Front has 4 piston brakes gray color caliper
Rear has open regular caliper

Those are the standard brakes on the car. M sport brakes are another option. They are not included in the m sport package.

As with cb804, these are the standard 335i brakes. 340mm 4 pistons in the front, 330mm single pistons in the rear.

A welcome surprise for Canadian 328 buyers - if you option the vehicle with the M-Sport package (available starting 2015.5 Production, Pre-LCI and LCI), you get a free brake upgrade to the standard 335i brakes with the 4 pistons in the front and larger discs front and rear.

Can he buy rear set one looks similer to front with 2 Pistons while keeping the front same.
It means upgrade to Mbrakes gray color only on rear, assuming assuming fronts are same.

Brakes are not just pistons, they are rotors also.
M Sport brakes come with bigger rotors, same 4 pistons brembo at the front but with blue calipers, 2 pistons blue calipers at the back.

This page here does a good job at comparing the different brake sets
