iDrive 7 New Release - 11/2023.25
My dealership installed a number of updates on my 2019 X7 yesterday, and somewhat to my surprise I scored what appears to be a new 'major' release of iDrive 7. I was expecting to get 11/2022.44 or a similar version. It would appear that BMW is probably on an annual update cadence for iDrive 7 now, release in November.
I did some google searching and wasn't able to find any mention of this new version anywhere. Interestingly iDrive 8 has a new version also with the same version number. Hoping this starts getting pushed via OTA and we see some release notes soon. Anyone else see it yet?

My 21 X7 is on the 07/2023.xx version. A dealer installed it a couple months ago and mentioned it addresses a transfer case problem.
Have you noticed any significant changes or maybe some new features in the latest version? |

I'm sorry you're going thru this. I don't recall any other reports on this forum about a dealer bricking their car. I hope this is just a one off and it will never happen to you again. Do you know what software version the dealer was trying to install?

Unfortunately I just got the car this week and it was running a really old version, so I'm not the best person to ask about new features!

SA was clueless. All he said was that there was a Genius working on the car and whatever software is available for that VIN number is installed.

It'll likely be spring of 2024 before a 11/2023 version will go out OTA. Right now I don't think the 07/2023 is going out OTA to Idrive 7 cars yet.

Do you have the release notes for this upgrade? Curious what’s new. It’s in the BMW my app.

Where would I find them? Haven't seen anything. No option for release notes within the Remote Software Upgrade portion of the app.

Car continues bricked at the dealer and they are clueless. Waiting for someone from BMW to connect to the car remotely to see if they can fixed. An absolute nightmare. Do not update any software on your cars. I do not trust BMW and am considering trading the car asap.

For what it's worth, this update broke the ability to code auto stop/start memory, or the on/off function in Bimmercode. I've fired off an email to BimmerCode on it.

Actually that broke in the 03/2023 update. BimmerCode folks says there's no way around it. You have to use the Custom Sports mode setting to disable ASS.

Also looks like my DME is now locked. Not sure if this happened with this iDrive update, but I'm unable to use a Bootmod3 flash because of it.
So beware; it looks like a recent update (possibly this one) has killed the ability to do hand-held tuning on the 2019 X7.

I had a very old version (2019). Bootmod3 also confirmed that this is a common theme with new software.

2021 M50i here. 48500 miles.
Just had my transfer case replaced due to shudder at low speed turns. Software was updated to 11.2023.30. I had the original software. Couple questions: 1. Can you still code the car to start in sport individual mode to avoid having to push the button every time? If not it doesn’t seem like there’s any point to set individual mode to comfort settings. You would just push the auto start/stop button each time instead. 2. Does anyone know if the newest update blocks coding of the ambient light colors? 3. Does anyone know if the new update blocks the anti dazzle from being coded back on? I loved having that feature. |

Thank you for the info though. Glad to hear there’s still something to code. |

Just got the 11/2023.25 update and I can confirm all coding through bimmercode is as it was earlier this year when we lost the ability to code off ASS etc. Coding Individual Sport at startup still works as a solution to that problem so it’s not a big deal.
Other than that I don’t notice anything different All car functions are working as usual. 2020 X7 M50i all options. |

My dealer installed the 07/2023 version on my X7 over an older 2021 version. While there were no changes to the iDrive UI, I noticed the start/stop system got significantly smoother, the amber blind spot lights in mirrors got dimmer at night, driver key recognition got much better, driver seat and steering wheel started repositioning much faster when switching driver profiles. Have you noticed anything along those lines? |
