Do you guys notice a rather high engine idle when starting? This thing is loud but quiets down shortly after.

I have noticed this as well. I wonder if it's set that way so that the car warms up faster

Yes, hard not to notice it's so loud! I have the M50i and after you first start it up it's pretty loud, with a V8 sound, and then revs down to very quiet after 20 seconds or so. Very noticeable.

Wonder why it's programmed like that.

I wish it would stay loud like that lol. I think it’s common for a cold start to sound like that at least with the M50i version. I’m sure the 50i engine is probably the same on a cold start.

It's on purpose. Computer dumps a lot of gas on startup to cause the catalytic converters to heat up quickly. It's only for emissions.

Love that growl when it first starts up. Which I had a button that I could press to make it stay like that when I wanted.....
