Hey Natd
I received a call from the Service Manager following up as my car was in last Thursday and Friday. See what I mean? it's so annoying. Fortunately it's winter here in Australia and I just switched off the rear zone. the slider blue and orange is only for what you described yes. That doesn't fix this issue. Just have to wait and see when this update will be available. I'm going to follow up end of July |

Do they say it includes a specific fix for this issue , or are they perhaps just saying "there's a software update coming. No idea what's fixed but we expect some bugs to be fixed?"

Thanks, never sat in back so hadn’t noticed. Have had my sisters kids in back and they were fiddling, but not really cold or hot, had windows open. Will test when home Sat.
I see the 2018-1 maps fixed the traffic congestion display issue I reported a while ago, so there is hope.

I'm experiencing the same problem with the warmer air at the back, and also recirculating mode is auto turn off... why? I've never own a car which doesn't allow me to permanently set recirculating to be on all the time, though this is my first BMW, so is it the same this whole time? |

I set my ac to recirculate when I picked up the car about 6 weeks ago. It has stayed 'on' since (or at least the light is still lit).
Do people who are having recirculate turn to 'off' seeing the light go out on this button? How long is that taking to happen? |

update is available
Hi guys.
Just been advised to take my car in on Friday as there is an update which has fixed the issue. Just hope it doesn't wipe off the coding Almaretto did. Have a nice day. |

Got the car back today and the AC has been fixed. Front and rear temperature is the same. no more 6 degrees variance.
This problem apparently is common, so check your cars ladies and gents. software update fixed it Have a nice weekend |

Still didn't fix the problem. Can you tell what version software you have? And which dealership did yours so I can get them to talk to each other. |

Did they give you any specific info like a service bulletin number (I made that up...) so I can ask a dealer for same? I could just go to Canterbury but another is more convenient for me.
Did it fix recirculate too? |

Hi guys.
All I can suggest is have your local dealer contact Canterbury BMW in Sydney and ask for the Service Manager. He knows all about it. Note: When I have the car in recirculating mode (press the button on the AC unit) it doesn't turn off after 4 minutes anymore. it stays on until the next time you start the car again. Then it reverts back to allow air from outside. No biggie, but better than every 4 minutes. |

It's fixed itself
So the dealership loaded the new software (as per my last update) and they did mentioned the systems has to be completely shut down for the proper reboot, usually occurs overnight when the car is shut down for a longer period of time. However I've been having issues with my Blackvue Dashcam power management unit (Power Magic Pro) stuffing up the electronics and now shutting the system down properly https://x3.xbimmers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1528384 So this meant the new software was never properly loaded. After I found out about the Dashcam issue I took out the Power Magic Pro, and it has fixed the Comfort Access and now wii the new software loaded the rear aircond is fixed! Thanks guys. |

I'M FIXED TOO!
Just back from "a" dealer, and the air in the rear was nice and cool with everything on 'sync' and also, I turned on Recirculation....and it was still on 20 minutes later. Mine worked immediately but I can tell they must have fully reset the car as my presets & bluetooth pairings etc were wiped but that's no big deal. The reason I said "a" dealer above is because my closest dealer (a corporate one) and the "BMW AU Head Office" Genius had all dismissed the issue and said there is no fault, no related update and that I should read the manual because it's all working as intended. I ended up going to Shamoonys dealer. Not exactly local to my house but it was worth it. |

I'm in Sydney and reviving this old thread after getting the same issue. I have a 2018 xDrive30i.
I was stuck in really slow traffic in high heat yesterday and got the same problem. It was really dangerous as the outside temp was high (30c), it's really sunny and at the rear is a small toddler in a child seat and grandma. Really hot air was billowing out and even affecting front seats. I found this thread by the roadside stressing out wtf was going on. I got everyone out and locked the car for 5 mins. We had to abort our trip and come home due to the risk of dehydration to rear passengers. It's a safety issue for sure. Never had this issue till now. I will take to the workshop Asap after long weekend. My observations - The temporary fix is to manually select face at rear. - Ticking/unticking default to rear did not work - switching rear OFF made the problem worse. Really high flow of hot air from the rear footwell - sync does not solve the problem. Again get blast of hot air from rear footwell - MAX AC does not solve the problem. Neither does manual vent control at front. AUTO at rear does not work. Same blast of hot air. After getting home and the car being off for 10 mins i made the following observations: - selecting AUTO no longer directed air to the footwell. Only cold air to the face. - manually forcing air to face and 16C resulted in cold air but not as chilly/fast as the front. - changing either driver or front pasenger to 18C (whilst other front at 22c) allowed the rear to get colder air and higher velocity The conclusion is the rear is not fully independent of either front and to get the extreme hot or cold, at least 1 front needs temp set within the vicinity of what the rear wants. Next i manually selected 16C temp at rear and select footwell only - footwell resulted in hot air. Not as bad as on the road but really warm. - varying rear temp and fronts kept at 22C regardless of rear temp setting i got the same warm air. - switching to face or auto stopped hot rear footwell air - switching OFF still resulted in hot rear footwell air Conclusion...likely is the software issue as reported. Even more sinister...is the floor duct not as well insulated as rear face and picking up heat from the underside of the car? Or do high temps stop a flap from working? As an added measure i disconnected the battery for 10 mins. I haven't driven the car since last night. Let's see how i go today. Overall why am i only experiencing this issue now? Maybe Australia (specifically sydney) had 3 wet cold summers and never got to replicate this problem?? Is it because it's my first time stuck in heat and such bad traffic? Maybe the car overheated and thermal expansion caused a flap to get stuck? Note this was triggered by the rear passengers really playing around with rear controls. I do wonder if i was on the freeway if i would have even gotten this problem. Either way, rear is going to be set today at coldest temp and face level only. Will update after i take to BMW. |
