Auto dimming mirror question

A girl from my job got a e90 (artic/prem/heat seats/terra) last night and hates the auto dimming feature on the rearview mirror. I read through the manual and threads here and there doesn't seem to be any way to adjust it. Other that putting something over the eye there seems to be no way..............Anyone?

why would she hate it? Does she enjoy being blinded at night?

Yeah they do look green, it is different, but she'll get used to it.

I actually found it out....You need to turn the clown nose to adjust the sensitivity. Thanks anyway!.....

The clown nose moves on car with the auto-dimming feature? I thought that was only on cars without the auto-dimming feature. I have the auto-dimming mirrors and the clown nose on my rear view does not move.

ok just looked at the manual. the clown nose only turns with cars without auto dim. the turning of the clown nose is the dimming of the rearview for those cars. it acts like that lever thing on other cars...hope that made sense....

I wanted to turn mine off so I could see the difference at night with it on and off- but I was unable to find any way to do so. Just tell her to get used to it- it's safer and less distracting than having bright lights shine in your face. Tell her to give it a week or two and if she still hates it- then she can talk to the dealer about turning it off.

it dims the mirror if the sensors deem the lights coming in are too bright...say if you have someone driving a raised truck behind you and your being blinded by his lights, the mirror darkens so that you wont be blinded when you look in your mirror...make snese?

Just put your finger over the sensor and give it a few seconds. You'll see the difference. Now remove your finger and give it a few seconds. You'll see the difference again.

I find it annoying sometimes when you want to see something other than just the lights behind you at night (i.e. if the car behind you is a cop).

Auto dimming is great and here's why: instead of just having 2 positions like a traditional mirror, the range of adjustment is far greater. That means when the guy behind you still has his brights on, the mirror will get extra dark to compensate; but when grandma sneaks up behind you in her Grand Marquis it doesn't dim that much at all so you have better visibility.
