I'm having a hard time figuring out what the best way to mount a phone on/near the dash. I typically run a Magic Mount setup but vent-clips on the X7 block too much of the controls, cup holder mounts get in way of radio keys, and suction cup mounts on glass are unsightly and too far away.

What's left is straight dash mount on the leather it seems or in the wireless charging pod without accessing your phone.

Could you guys post your setup for some ideas?

I'm honestly interested, without pointing fingers, or getting judgmental on peoples' phone use while driving. What's your desire for doing a phone mount, instead of being on the charging pad? Is there a function you want access to while driving, that Apple Carplay, or the BMW apps, don't provide?

I run Android, not Apple - so Android Auto is out for me which I would love to use and put the phone away in the charging spot.

Running Waze would be the key driving app as well as Tidal for music streaming.

I hear you, Waze looks great on the 12.3" screen (using CarPlay of course) and is easily my favorite nav app. I tried Google Maps several times to compare but for me Waze wins hands down because of it's alerts. Knowing what's ahead makes all the difference.

Well I normally would not suggest something so unsightly, I would just stick a big old suction cup right in the middle of the LCD iDrive display and call it a day. Sounds like you aren’t using it and it’s actually the most logical location if you think about it.

There are lots of other reasons to have a phone visible as you drive; particularly for work calls via webex app, google assistant, podcasts, voice recorder, so on and so on.

Having those apps AND the iDrive screen avail makes infinite sense. If BMW had Android Auto support, this would be a non-sequitur and your joke would actually be funny.

If you didn't have Carplay already avail you'd be singing a different tune, so your attempt at humor is lost on me.

A-tach mount coupled with the ball, and put my old wireless charger on the ball joint. I'll take pictures when I get home tonight.

Doesnt that cover up the passenger-side climate controls and some of the iDrive screen?
