Ideally, a square wheel (all wheel sizes are the same width and diameter) setup if you want have all tires the same width. I don't have a calc handy but you'll want to go with the widest tire that will fit the front and clear the suspension and wide enough to fit the rear wheel without being too stretched out - I'd lean towards 285.

Like Mentioned above, you may need to buy different wheels for the rear at least to best accommodate the 1.5” narrower tire. You can ask your tire shop (not bmw). As you have the 22” wheels, and there really aren’t A/S tires available, you’ll may need to get some winter tires at least for this winter if you do any driving in the 40’s or less. Maybe next year an A/S option will come available. This aspect kept me in the 21s at purchase. Another popular option is to buy a set of 21” wheels so you keep your 22s mounted. Hope this helps.

I'm considering the Pirelli Scorpion Winters with 275/40R22s all the way around on the OEM wheels. The spec on the tire says it supports a rim width of 9"-11". Guy at Tire Rack thought it would be fine. I might call some custom tire/wheel shops to get their opinions and welcome to more thoughts here.

The best way is to replace two rear rims with two extra front rims ( if you can get them from dealer) and then you are good to go with 275 at all four corners.

Winters should be as narrow as car allowed, the wider the tire the less effective it is as if driving on snow instead of cutting in to the bare ground you spread the weight and tire will ride without cutting thru the snow

I ran 285/50/20 Blizzaks on a previous SUV and also had great results. Last edited by BMWBear; 11-07-2019 at 10:38 AM.. |

Hi M427
Do you have more pictures showing your rear setup? from the back to see how stretch or narrower the tire looks? I do travel to NC every winter for 2 weeks and did not know i couldn't use my Summer tires with such a cold temperature. I guess lucky me I went thru snow, rain and cold temperatures and the car behave really good. The tires are finally on their last leg and wanted to get A/S tires. The problem I'm facing is that 325/35R22 Pirelli scorpion A/S are no where to be found and the few out there they want $700 a tire So doing some research a good option is 295/35R22 (as your setup) which is 0.6"shorter than stock. Have you noticed any differences in ride, handling or speedometer reading ?

I have 275's on my rear wheels for F15 X5. The rear wheels are 11" wide and it does work but looks sketchy. I'll post a pic of it tomorrow so you can see the amount of stretch.

Can't one use 285/40 22 all around on the 9.5 and 10.5 rim widths? They are virtually the same diameter (31.1)" as the squared 21" rim setup (30"). Ideally, would like to go 285/45 22 which is 32.1" in diameter, but am not sure if I have the clearance.
