Is there any storage room in that compartment with the space saver spare installed, no matter how small? For example, could a small duffel bag fit on top of the spare? Or perhaps enough room for a folded tarp (to protect the back when hauling dirty stuff, etc.)? Maybe a set of jumper cables, etc.?

Maybe a tarp, but I don't think a duffle bag would fit.

Jumper cables should though. I'll try and snap a picture.

I actually have 2 big costco bags in the left compartment plus a costco bag on top of the spare tire and one of the hard plastic collapsable boxes (also from costco) there. It is a bit tight but fit.

With Isse snow socks. A duffle bag could fit if made from thin material. I had to take out the rear hatch cover to make this work
