I'm a Breitling fan myself although I don't own one yet. Nice piece! I share your sentiments with Rolex as well. I wouldn't own one.

Ooh Avengers are pretty! To be fair though, rolex attracts way too much attention even if it's a steel model

Yeah, and for every watch aficionado who knows what it is, there's 8 fawning douches. And if someone doesn't know you and they spot a Rolex, they're going to make some assumptions about you. I'd rather avoid that. There are so many cool watches out there, there's no need to wear one that comes with baggage.

I was just having some fun with it. We all know plenty of gold diggers are out there. I don't even drive to meet anyone anymore. I just pick a brewery, bar, etc in my town & walk there already buzzed.

99% of em are not worth meeting, forget about taking time & $ to drive somewhere.

I stopped wearing watches years ago. Got annoying plus my phone has a clock. No Rolex baller, though. It was just a Movado.

At least every watch only shows the time, no matter how pricey. You could see that very exclusively or cheap.

Curious, do you guys usually dress up pretty nicely when you meet for the first time or do you just stay moderate and average dressed?

Also, how are y'all determining whether to go for a coffee or for an actual dinner lol?

Moderate. Usually nice jeans with a decent shirt. My first meet is usually for coffee though. The goal is look casual but well put together. I do coffee when meeting online because it's easy and gives you an idea of what the person is like especially if you met online. Dinner is usually awkward anyway. For a second date I'll do something fun or competitive like mini golf and lunch. Third would be dinner at one of the local casinos or something.

I typically meet for coffee or maybe a happy hour. I dress to fit the location. I dress pretty generic - no designer logos, put my watch in my pocket. I'm pretty guarded unless/until I feel some mutual connection and trust. I just want to see if we can have a few laughs together, with as few preconceived notions floating around as can possibly be managed.

Very similar for me. I don't do dinner or anything ambitious for the meet-and-greet first "date," which I don't really consider to be a date; it's more like a meeting to see if there should be a first date.

I usually shoot for 30-45 minutes. I've had them go a few hours, though, if I'm not booked elsewhere and the conversation's fun and easy.

I try to maintain a conversational tone, but I ask some probing questions. I'm there to get an impression of their character and some answers to questions that are deal-breakers for me (and might be for her too). I can be direct without it feeling like an interrogation. If they're dodgy with their answers, then we're done.

Nice. I just got out of a semi long relationship and decided to give these "app" a try now. Noticed most are absolutely trash, and you can converse for a bit and they just either go MIA or I lose complete interest from the way they respond (1-2 word messages making me carry a conversation, or they just sound uneducated af).

Met someone who seems pretty chill, been talking for like 2 weeks and told her I'd take her out to dinner but now I feel like I should've just said coffee from the responses here lol.

Sounds like you're doing well with this person, so dinner is a fine idea I think. If she's able to hold up her end of the conversation in texts/voice interactions over a couple of weeks, then dinner is a natural next step. I don't usually wait that long to get face-to-face, so dinner in my "system" is a bit riskier.

Thanks for the reassurance. Yes she seems to be a finer person compared to the others I've talked with on the apps. I picked a nice place to eat, near the water. Let's see how it pans out.

One thing I like is I don't have to text her first always. She'll text me to say hi and likes to keep it simple (ex: something that happened at work). I find this to be rare amongst females these days since they rarely like to text first.... is this what you all notice as well?

I think you've got a good prospect there. She seems to have some genuine interest in you and isn't merely responding out of politeness, for the sake of keeping the connection open. That's a great sign!

I'd say the opposite scenario, where you have to send Rico and Bubba and Bones over with the baseball bats and tire irons to get someone to reply to your text, demonstrates a definite lack of interest. Or possibly a chaotic train-wreck of a life. Or shitty time-management skills. Or bad OCD. Or a combination thereof. And while we might wonder or speculate which one(s) it is, does it really matter? Either they demonstrate interest and stay in the game, or they don't and get benched.

No I think he means the watch one lol. But added the arms part to it since that's all you see on that thread in addition to the watch

Yeah, I second the fact that I believe he means the watch one as a combo hairy arm thread.

I don't like watches, so I don't visit the thread, but I've seen a few pics some posters post up that looks like a watch around a bear's paw...bleh.

I try to shoot for happy hour because
1- i probably could qualify as an alcoholic
2- chances are, she could too (college campus).

Used to go on coffee dates, but they tore down my favorite coffee shop. I loved going there because I'd try to have the date when one of my buddies was working (free coffee), and if shit hit the fan 95% chance someone else I knew would be around so I'd try to pull them in to the conversation and get her to leave

Was big on dinners, but didn't take for my buddies to realize I was probably saved as "free food" on the girls' phones so that ended quickly. :I
