The 320-330hp variant of the B58 is plenty of power for the X7. The amount of immediate torque in these turbo engines (with small turbines) means they will move just fine in every day traffic. Obviously the V8 would be more fun, but there are even 360-380hp versions of the B58 with over 350lb-ft of torque.

To be honest, the amount of overall power and torque from these turbo engines is probably comparable to the Infiniti QX80 V8 which is obviously NA and would have a more gradual torque curve but has a higher peak value.

C&D did an initial drive in May and they claimed the I6 version drives just fine for what it is. This is a soccer mom car, I doubt most of the owners would care too much whether it came with the 6 or 8 cylinder engine.

I'm kind of sick and tired with this cat and mouse game that Bmw is playing on this car, just show us the details specifications and pictures of the car and we will decide to buy or not. I don't think this kind of "for play" before actual lunch can affect any real customer decision to choose x7 vs a Range Rover or merc. Get real

Given pretty much the whole interior is being carried over from the X5, it seems to be a larger X5 much more than an actual SUV 7 Series in terms of product philosophy. But the same holds true for the Merc GLE / GLS. Probably full-size sedan refinement and exclusivity aren't needed in this segment and such an investment by BMW would only cost them useless R&D.

There was a gentleman there that we became friends and he mentioned he had a GLS63 and sadly he says his vehicle had more room compared to the X7. For those of you that were expecting a true three row vehicle you will be disappointed. For those that wanted a nicer, more upscale and plush SUV than the X5 and still need the ability to take 6/7 depending on how you configure the middle row you will be pleased. Is it $30k better than a X5 is up to you.

Peace,
Noushy
Fortunately, I'm not disappointed because I'm more interested in having two individual seats in the middle than a third row and knew that, given its dimensions, the X7 would in no way approach the room of an Escalade. But, did they indicate it'll be $30k more than an X5? Even with the additional standard equipment on a 40i, I was thinking more in the neighborhood of $20k.
My fully loaded top trim Toyota Highlander (family car) has captain seats in the second row, heated and ventilated leather seats (some say taken from Lexus) and a third row that is hard for use on regular basis but ok for kids, was only $43k.
Yes it is not BMW and drives like a 43k SUV but it makes me smile seeing pple happy to see captain seats in 100k bmw suv. I think Lincoln had them for a long time... Germans are way behind when it comes to SUVs I guess...

Have to agree. The wife currently drives a 2006 Infiniti QX56. Very nice leather captain's chairs in the 2nd row, enjoyable to ride in.

I was referring to the one they had there which was a M50i. It will start at $100k. Yes the 40i will be around $15k less but who wants a big heavy luxury SUV that is underpowered.

Peace

That same drivetrain gets the X5 0-60 in 5.3s or less. What’s the X7 going to do it in, then? 5.5s? 5.7s? It’s likely as quick as a 330, if not quicker. What kind of ridiculously unrealistic standard do you have for performance calling the base version of a giant family hauler SUV hanging with Mustangs and Camaros and the like underpowered?

It is likely going to be 6s to 60. Anyone paying that kind of money will expect more especially with 5-6 passengers. In the US the 750i outsells the 740i around 9:1. Good luck with that. My guess is it will be the same or worse for the X7. Oh and look around how many GLS450 do you see? And why is the only engine in an Escalade a 400hp 6.3 V8? My point is people will buy the V8 most of the time in the X7, and thus $100k plus price tag. You twisted my comments, they were to state at that price range most people will get the V8 especially with a heavy load of passengers.

I suspect it will look exactly like the X5, just as the interior does.

After the X7 BMW's lineup will be completely revamped. I can't think of which redesign comes next ... 2-series maybe? 4-series will be a coupe of the 3 so we already know hat to expect.

I was at the Malibu closed room show as well. Getting into the damn place was another story all together (involved standing next to horses)

X7 is surprisingly roomy but I expected it to be comfortably seat 7 people. 2 front, 3 middle, 2 back but that actually isn't true. Since the middle row is two single seats with a small little isle to move in between. It was still very roomy despite that. There are a lot of little tech things they shoved in the car also but from what I can tell it's probably going to make its way down the X6 and X5 line too, at least I wouldn't be surprised if BMW chooses to do so later. Front giant grill wasn't as huge in person but I think the closed room probably concealed the proportions. The X7 supposedly isn't that much bigger than the X5. Car also has a lot of new BMW interior design elements you been seeing from the G20 to the G30 and so on, so on that front you shouldn't see anything overly different.

Other than that, I didn't see anything about the X7 that completely blew my mind but then again I am not the target buyer. From the people that were there though, quite a few of them said they will get the car.

You should have asked the designer what's with these UGLY AF Chiclets grills.
I don't care how good that car is. That face only that designer can love.

Was at the Event in Fort Lauderdale yesterday. My first impressions:

- Like many said, it feels a bit larger, not a lot, than the X5 (specially considering how they grow more and more each generation)
- Front grill is massive, but I got to say that overall, at least with Laser lights and Msport bumpers, looks pretty good. Gives the car a mean face, I liked it.
- Internal room on third row is nothing to brag about, likely will be mostly used for kids, occasionally adults in short rides
- interior quality and materials are top notch, bmw digital cockpit, new design of air vents, lighting, etc... all combined, make it for a new, fresh, take on the bmw interior design. That has definitely put BMW on par, or closer to Mercedes and Audi interior wise.
- captain chairs on second row are a nice touch, bet lot of people will go for that. I would.
- according to rep on site, it will likely have a base in the range of 80-90 on 35i.
- one little note: It's GOT to be a pre-production vehicle aspect, but arm rests of captain chair are made of what seems a very cheap plastic material, only where you touch you arm you have leather. It looks awful when you see it raised or from the third row. It seems as if they put there as "placeholders" until production starts.

I got the invite and declined to attend since this is not a car that I would buy. However, it is nice to hear the overall good impressions about the car. Sounds like a solid alternative to the GLS 550 for people who want a large German SUV.

This hideously huge Butterfly Grill has to go! All these Butterfly Grills have to be re-designed.

Obviously these larger engines need cooling so you obviously need a bigger grill which I understand. But if that is the case there should be NO need for the stupid Active Air Intake. Or they can decrease the size the grill, because the word "kidney" now does NOT apply.

I just wish it was a little wider, but non the less I want to see it in the flesh before I make any impressions.

OPs thanks for the feedback
