Yes it does. You can turn it on either from a key fob or from the mobile app.

I was thinking the same thing. Remote start?

I think BMW distinguishes between remote start and climatization. The latter one doesn't necessarily require engine start, but in my experience they always work together.

Also, you might have to turn on the engine start option. It's in Climate - Settings. Have to toggle remote engine start to on.

I have a fully loaded X7 LCI and disappointingly neither remote start or preheating is available in the UK. I also have a Volvo XC90 and it has a preheat that uses a diesel heater and remote start to cool down in summer. This is definitely not available in a UK spec X7! As a side issue neither is highway/motorway assist

Preheating (536) is 1,5k euro option.
It is electric - working from battery.

Remote start - not sure it is provided in Europa.

I should have mentioned that I have an xdrive 40d. I understand that preheating is an option for phev models as it does indeed run off the battery, but not mine unfortunately. Although my Volvo has remote start, I was told by BMW that this isn’t available as it’s illegal in the UK to leave your vehicle with the engine running.

That’s not quite true. It’s illegal to start your engine and leave it running with no one in the car on public roads. If it’s on a private driveway or private car park then it’s fine. Like Volvo, Land Rover also allow remote engine start in the UK.

BMW is just assuming you’ll not use it properly so not trusting you to make the correct judgement. Very annoying.
