anyone else had to replace their thrust arm bushings

I have a 2019 x7 50i with about 55k miles. The other day I notice a leak all the way up my driveway and into my garage which seemed to be from the driver side front area. I couldn’t figure it out for a while, but finally saw it appears to be the liquid from the bushing.

This has proven expensive as far as quotes so far, was curious if anyone had diy or what your price was. Thanks

I just bought a 2019 x7 and found out I bought it with bad bushing

Dealer quoted me $2100 to replace both in the front

I’m at 42k miles

I’m at 58k miles and both of mine went bust. Puddles of oil under the car. I took it in (happy that I had the extended warranty) but was bummed to find out it was those and not covered. $1600 for both. Sucks. BMW knows these fail, my SA predicted it around 60k.

This is a classic failure point on BMWs, and you should expect to replace them every 50k. On my E70 X5 they cost about $100 each for the part. It's a little bit annoying to DIY because the suspension has to be loaded when the bolts are torqued.

These weren't covered under the BMW extended warranty?

On my old 750 I was told it was a ware item and not covered. It would be interesting to see if it is covered by the extended maintenance.

Took my 2019 x7 xDrive50i for an oil change at my local indie shop (Dr. Beemer North Austin) and they noted that the front thrust arms on the front suspension (both sides) will be needing replacing soon. They quoted me $1587, which compared to what others have gotten quoted at dealers is a good deal. I have another indie shop I've gotten suspension work done at in Pflugerville that I need to shop quotes at, but if I don't have to drive 30+min and it costs around the same, I'll just take it back to Dr. Beemer.

Took our X7 in the other day to our BMW dealer as I noticed a little bit of black fluid underneath the front passenger side in front of the motor. I thought perhaps a leak from the turbo or something of that sort. Our dealer diagnosed it as the front thrust arm bushing leaking and recommend replacing on both sides. Our X7 only has 39k miles and we have owned since new, has been driven pretty gently on smooth suburb roads of the Dallas area. They are quoting me $2500 to have these replaced, another $259 for an alignment, and for some reason also want to charge me $120 to have front tires balanced (brand new tires were just installed in December). We also have extended warranty and are waiting to hear if it will be covered, but sounds like not. I feel like the dealer quote seems very high. Anyone have any feedback on if this is normal at only 39k miles? What else may go wrong on it in the near term? Seems extended warranty is a joke, thinking whether to have it fixed or just trade in for something else.

It is not covered by the extended warranty. I just had mine replaced. The parts are about $300 each. All in including alignment was about $1600. Expensive but no real choice. It’s a part that’s known to go bad.

Is that from a BMW dealer or independent shop? My BMW dealer quoting me almost 3k for parts, labor, alignment, tax.

If you plan on keeping your BMW longer than 3 years / 50K miles it is IMPERATIVE that you have an indy mechanic on hand.

I have owned 12 BMW's, mostly M cars, since 2004. This X7 is the first that we have kept over 4 years. I can see why people always say don't keep them past factory warranty now.

That’s great news! What warranty do you have?

[P.S.: when you reply, please feel free to sneak in a few exterior/interior pics of the 718 ]

The warranty I bought when we purchased the X7 from my dealer in November 2019. It is called Gulf States. I am relieved that they covered it, definitely made my day lol. I have attached some pics of my 4RS per your request. Enjoy!

That is crazy that BMW one did not cover it but my non BMW extended warranty did over it. Just have to pay a $50 deductible.

This looks like an easy thing to swap out. Do you need a special tool or press to remove old and put in new? It looks like a static part so if you didn’t adjust alignment when it was worn, it should, in theory, not affect alignment.

I found a document detailing the R&R and it didn’t look bad. The press or specialized tool would be the limiting factor. I’m sure that is still less than labor costs. Part is only $100 per side. Seems like non-issue on the grand scheme.
