I just sharing the response I received from BMW.

My BMW shop foreman recommended that if I want to keep the 22" wheels to keep the factory size tire as well(275/40/22 and 315/35/22) and not to change the size at all because it could have the potential to mess up my transfer case and cause damage to the vehicle.

Anyone know what the transfer case is and what roll it plays?

On the transfer case, I am bit puzzled this would make sense if the car has strictly mechanical but now all is computer controlled with force feedback so to be frankly honest I am not impressed with the quality of the answer from your foreman...

Went with 21" Savini BM14 and Blizzaks for winter.

Refinishing the OE wheels to a dark grey.

I also went with a cheaper option. 21 inch MSW type 48 wheels and Bridgestone Blizzak LM 001 RFT run flat tires from Tire Rack installed today. Total $2814. Just in time because it had just started to snow!!

Looks good. How do those tires do in terms of road noise?

They do very well. Not much road noise at all, not appreciably more than the P-zeros and much better than the Blizzak DM-V1 winter tires I used on my Honda Odyssey

If you shop those new sizes on tire rack they will come up.

Here's the back tires.

I just noticed there is finally an actual 22" staggered setup for the X7 at Tire Rack in BMW OEM Sizes. $2400 for winters but you don'd need to buy wheels.

Doubtful, but it's the same size as the summers, so it really shouldn't matter. I've never had a dealer give me any trouble as long as I used an OEM size.

Has anyone run a square setup on the stock 22 inch rims?

I've seen 285/45/22 floating around in the forums, just wanted to hear some feedback on that setup.

I plan on running 285/40/22 all seasons all around. Winters are very mild here in Mid Atlantic, so those should work just fine. YOKOHAMA
PARADA SPEC-X is just $280 per tire.

I live on the westcoast of Canada, our snowfall lasts roughly a week or two, so just looking for an option that would be on for like 2-3 months max without breaking the bank.

I have read almost every post on this forum about this. From what I have seen - if you are looking "not to break the bank" Blizzark 285 all around set up for winter tires is probably the best bet on 22s. If you want to downsize, it might be cheaper, but, like you, I'm sticking with 22s as well.

Hoping not to look foolish, but the 2021 M50i only has 21” all season option. I would like the 22’s for 10 months of the year, but they are not a square set. If i decided to have a second set of winter tires, how far off would my odometer be if I ran 21’s in the winter? Probably just as easy to run as second set of 22’s.

Thanks for your input, if we got more snow I would definitely buy a separate set, but for the amount we get I'd rather just keep the 22's for the look

Would love to see a picture with them installed on an SUV, maybe 21s since these 22s just came out?

Well, I did get a second set of 22 rims to put tires on. Swapping tires off and on a set of wheels twice a year, every year, wasn't cheap plus apparently not very good for run flats.
