Can the crystal knob be installed after?
The wife is adamant about having a crystal knob, I care more if I get the right color combo.
Say if I found the "right" vehicle that doesn't have the crystal shift, can that be added in by the dealer? |

Why not order it with everything you both want?

It’s not just the shifter that’s glass. It’s the button on the radio and the idrive control and start stop button. I personally think it would be odd to add just one component and have all the others black. |

I ordered some of the components that people said were back ordered and delaying the builds but I didn’t experience any delays. Just over one month built to order. Originally I didn’t want the glass controls but had to add them as part of the executive package. After seeing the regular controls as a comparison the glass look much better.

Yes you can add all the glass control bits but of course it’ll cost you well over what the cost is to just order it from the factory.
I forgot what the total came out to be since it has been a while since I got it priced out. My wife preferred not having the extra bling but I was curious. |

Has anyone been able to find the crystal shift knob? I even called the Bmw dealership parts department and they knew nothing about it.

We missed out on the crystal stuff, basically because our dealer didn’t know any better, and told us we would have reduced functionality as far as being able to “write” letters onto iDrive controller—which I, at the time, felt like would be more useful. By the time we learned otherwise, our vehicle was already in production, and it couldn’t be changed, so I asked our CA if we would be able to add them aftermarket. He quoted me something on the order of like $3000, to the which I politely replied that he could go and pound all the sand he wanted. Pretty dang annoying that we missed out on something the missus had really wanted, basically because of THEIR mistake, but, first world problems to the Nth degree, amirite?

Hey all...I spoke to BMW Treasure Coast in Ft. Pierce Florida and Blaine in parts was able to do some research and locate the crystal shift knob.
It is from BMW an $950 MSRP part. He said he can order it for $815. Part number is 61319475056. Hope this helps someone. Cheers!

That’s so dumb lol. If I remember correctly, the add on option was like 600 bucks!
