My '22 X7 was giving me several codes. Most important one said POWER. It advised I pull over carefully and contact roadside assistance.
I had it towed to the dealer and they replaced the 48V battery. Waited 10 days for the part. The service guy showed me the price of the part. $2500.

Apparently it is not your ordinary battery. It is liquid cooled by your radiator anti-freeze.

Good thing it was covered under warranty.

I don't think radiator antifreeze would provide much cooling effect to a battery inasmuch as coolant is typically 180F while driving. These 48V batteries are packaged with integral control electronics. Likely the electronics which control the charging and discharging current can get warm, but typically temp sensors regulate the activity since batteries neither charge nor discharge efficiently at high and low temperature extremes. Extended warranty is a must for these mild hybrids (especially if you live in a climatic extreme) since these batteries seem to be a work in progress.

There are 2 cooling circuits, one hot for the engine and the smaller one is considered the cool circuit which goes to the 48 v battery and the PCU or the dc/dc converter. It has it's own electric pump and mini radiator. I think might also go to the twin turbos too.

Stabilizing the battery temperature as you describe would certainly make sense. Is this accomplished with the battery placed inside an insulated temp controlled compartment driven by the heat pump?

How about the fact that the 22 models aren't mild hybrids?

My 2021 is mild hybrid. I may be wrong, but I think the technology was introduced for 2021 model year. The previous model years didn't have it.

Actually he isn't completely wrong. The 40i went mild hybrid in 2021. M50/M60 did not go mild hybrid until 23 or 24 MY.

The 40i B58 went 48v Mild Hybrid in 2021 MY, the M50/M60 V8 version didn't get mild hybrid until 2023 or 2024 MY (Forget which one).

I believe the pre-23 40i's included first generation mild hybrid system, but M50i's do not (engine compartment space constraint). Beginning with the LCI, both X7's have mild hybrid tech as the motor generator is integrated with the transmission. Please correct me if this is wrong!

Yeah might want to check your facts because my 2022 is a mild hybrid...

Welp, learn something new every day. I didn't realize the 40s were mild hybrids pre-LCI.

the hybrid system was changed- perhaps thats what you are thinking of?
pre lci it was a belt driven starter/generator on the 40i
LCI the MH starter/generator is integrated into the transmission. this is both the 40i and the M60i

i believe both still have a conventional 12V starter for the first cold start of the day. the auto start stop starts are handled by the starter/generator.
