100K Vehicle With No Engine Compartment Lights

Like the title says...No engine compartment lights. So, is this typical for all German cars or just BMW? Granted, you can't check the oil or transmission fluid but how about just being able to find the battery terminals in the dark?

In my 62 years this is the first car I've owned that didn't have any lights in the hood/engine compartment.

Guess that's the norm now.

I think my Audi doesn't have one and I don't think my Lincoln has, either.

Never noticed on my Audi. Never opened the hood except to add washer fluid. I guess that's saying something about reliability.

True, that's why I'm not even sure if it's there...

In all of my BMW’s, and I’ve had many, I’ve never had a light. Never really needed one.

Can't think of a car or suv I have owned that had an engine bay light since the 90's. When is the last time you purchased a car and which one had this feature?

1988 Toyota Camry, 1993 Ford Crown Victoria, 1998 Ford Ranger, 2001 Toyota Camry, 2006 Toyota Tundra, 2008 Toyota Avalon, 2013 Toyota Highlander and many more before that.

This is obviously a German auto maker design.

i had a Toyota rav 4 which had engine compartment lights.
BMWs don't but the designers probably think you aren't supposed to be fiddling in the engine compartment anyways at night!
